Hello there Guys, I was just about to place my order for the Thermalright True Black Edition, but after reading around, the OCZ Vendetta 2 looks to be a pretty good cooler too.
I am trying to push my QX9770 Close to 4GHz or Near on Air Cooling.
So the question is, Which one do I go with: Thermalright TRUE Black or OCZ Vendetta 2?
Your Thoughst?:welcome:

the TRUE si still the best but the ocz is the best performance for the price, but if u have a realy high heat load the ifx-14 could beat the TRUE

Yeah i'd say the TRUE would win out of those 2, but i'd go with a IFX-14, I have one and its great, Q6600 @ 4GHz :D (not 24/7)

Depends on the fan. TRUE beats OCZ with high CFM/high pressure fans, OCZ beats TRUE with low CFM/low pressure fans. Can be explained with the fin density. ;)

the vendetta 2 is a great cooler. if it was me that would be my pick. but why the black true over the regular one if you go that way save the money and get the reg one.. the black also from a few people i have heard actually did worse that the normal silver true did not by a lot but still for the price imo not worth it at all

IFX-14 with 2x Noctua P12 1300 is a beast and it still does make it ear friendly

Hello there guys, I didn’t wanted to start another thread about my question, so here it is. I am gona go with Thermalright TRUE Black and with two fans to keeps it cool. I know a lot of you guys told me to get the older version and I have that version. But I have a problem with that version. The problem is that when I installed the heatsink with fan, the heatsink wasn’t really tight. I use the clamp and I screwed all the screws, but still the heatsink was moving around on the processor. I didn’t feel safe. So if someone had this problem, please tell me what I am doing wrong.
And also can you guys recommend me good fans for my Thermalright TRUE Black. And Should I go with One or Two Fans? Also noise is no problem with me. As long as my Processor is cooled off really Good!

You have to use what some people call a pressure mod or washer mod.
There's 2 ways to do it.
1.) Put some washers on each of the 4 tension screws.
2.) Put some washers (or coins) underneath the bracket so that it sits between the base and the bracket (NOT between the base and the CPU).
This will give it more pressure.
Also, the base of the TRUE isn't flat. You may want to spend some time to lap it. You can order a $15 lap kit, or goto a hardware store and spend about $5 for the sand paper (400/600/800 are the 3 grades usually recommened).

Another vote for OCZ Vendetta 2
I can not believe the difference it made with my load temps compared to stock Intel crap
25C drop in load temp

I have a IFX-14 its cooled my Q6600 @ 4.0GHz :p: So i'm sure it wouldn't have a problem cooling a QX9770 @ 4.0GHz.

Or, if you want to avoid having to compensate for Thermalright's lousy mounting system and convex base, get a Noctua NH-U12P. I swapped my modded TRUE for the Noctua and I'm glad I did. The base is flat, and it uses a far superior mounting system, no movement whatsoever. It also comes with a Noctua NF-P12 fan and a second set of mounting clips for another one:cool:
