I was wondering if using the thermal tiling that space shuttles use as heatsink material would have good results. Does anyone have any experience with this or will I be the first to try it out on an old processor?

Isn't the whole idea of thermal shielding that it doesn't conduct heat? At all? So using it as a CPU cooler would probably be worse than leaving the chip in the open air...

The coating of the tiling is designed to do exactly that, but the interior is what absorbs the heat. You can buy the tiling with or without the coating. NASA also has a coating that can super dissipate heat but I'm not seeing it for sale. If I can find it somewhere else I could rig up some monstrosity.

Didn't DFI use tiles for their southbridges? I remember seeing it on boards about a year ago...

As far as i know, there is no economically viable synthetic substance, or compound that can come close to good old fashioned copper or aluminum, when
it comes to thermal conductivity. if there was some magic bullet out now, we'd be using it by now.
