I am looking for a new HSF which can handle an E8500 @ 4GHz for 24/7 use. I am not considering a Thermalright Ultra 120 but rather some of the lighter and simialr performing HDT coolers like Xigmatek S1283 and Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer.

My only concern is that I have a cooler master 830 Evo cabinet which has problems with installing certain tower HSF's. I will need a HSF which can install in Stacker 830 without having me take off side panel containg the fans altogether. Do any of these Heat Sinks allow installation with removal of just one fan on the side panel.

btw, motherboard is Gigabyte X48-DQ6.

How about the OCZ Vendetta 2? I was using it with my 8400 @ 4.2Ghz 24/7

Does it fit in the Stacker 830 with having me remove the side panel containing the fans? Also I have to import the HSF from USA to my country, and Vendetta 2 works out a lot costlier than the Xigmatek or Core Contact Freezer.

If this helps:
OCZ Vendetta 2 in my Antec Sonata
case = 8.1" wide
cooler = 159.5 mm (6 5/16") high
you case = 9.8" wide
depends how deep your fan is

In your case. But for others its going to vary. Both have about the same specs, just OCZ has a bit more surface area going for it.

The Sunbeam, Xig, OCZ, and TRUE are all pretty much the same HEIGHT when regarding their 120mm fan coolers. If you do decide on them, and have to remove your fan, you can do what I did with my Antec 900 case and mount the fan EXTERNALLY on the side cover. You may have to mod it a little (drilling a hole for fan power cable).

Just make sure you get a cheap (or nice cut) 120mm fan grill to keep the fins safe from fingers.

If you don't want to go that route, you may be stuck with the 92mm fan versions (OCZ & Xig have 92mm HDT HSFs).

Sunbeam, Xig, or Vendetta 2. All three are solid choices.

Well, my problem is not the height of the HSF, but the thickness (including the 120mm fan). If anyone seen the Stacker 830, there is a plastic cradle on which 4 fans are installed. A TRUE 120 fits in the Stacker 830 if I remove the fan covering the CPU. But if the width of the HSF is too large, the plastic in beteen the two fans on the craddle obstructs the closing of the craddle. So for such HSF's I would have to remove the entrie craddle which I do not want to do. I am fine with removing the fan over the CPU area.

I have NEVER seen tests that support what you say...

but 1 germ test showing that ocz is lees good...

there are differences though ;)

What about top down coolers?

Top-down coolers are good, but they only work their best with very good airlflow.

Like what? +/- 2C doesn't matter. :p:

Talking about top down coolers, I currently have a Cooler Master GeminII (with 2 x 120mm Panaflo @ 115 CFM each) in my rig cooling my E6600 @ 3.2 GHz. We have very hot summers, so the room temperatures are pretty high around this time. The GeminII manages idle temperatures at pretty decent level (34~36 deg), but load temperatures can go very high (> 53 deg). I am guessing that GeminII will not be able to handle a proccy with high overclocks. So what other top down coolers are good for high overclocks.

One more thing is that I havent got the processor yet. I got a hint that 45nm Core 2 Quad prices are going fall in the next 10 days and Q9550 will be available at the same price point as Q9450 currently. In that case I may go in for Q9550. So the HSF should be able to handle a overclocked quad. Airflow is not a problem in my staker 830 as I have 4 x 120mm (90CFM each) fans on the side and 2 x 120mm (45 CFM each) fans on the front blowing in fresh air.
