I have a watercooled Q6600 with a vid of 1.225.

I can get to 4ghz with load temps of 62c's but with 1.625v's in it to keep it stable :( Is that safe? I hear the recommended max is 1.5? I can keep it at 3.8ghz daily with it at 1.5v's...

My specs are below.

So how much voltage is safe for daily usage? Any voltage as long as temps stay low? I just don't want to fry my components because they need to last for a long time :).

i wouldnt even recommend 1.5 for daily :P

The most i would recommend would be 1.4v for daily usage, should get you around 3.6ghz. just what i think

63C is too warm

It's not only ya CPU that needs to work hard also the power circuitry of ya mobo and co... maybe better to back of to 3.6-3.8Ghz as you clearly state it has to last a long time (hope that's longer than a year)

1.3750 I think it was, i got it written down at home, is what I use for 3.6 ghz. Ok, I'll put it down to that, even though thats what I could hit on air. Those load temps are usually at 50c's. Too bad, i was liking my 3.8ghz :)

i'd say 1.55 is safe for 24/7 usage on a 65nm quad. my 65nm dual has had just under 1.6v going through it for a good 4-5months now with simular temps to drizzt loaded.

Well now I'm a bit nervous about using that much voltage 24/7 and I probably don't see to much real world performance. 3.6ghz will do me fine.

ran mine under air at 4ghz 24/7 for a couple of months no issue at just under 1.55v... although tbh unless you are doing video/photo work or something that requires all 4 cores you will notice no real life difference to 3.4/3.6ghz

Bah dont listen to them, run it at 4G you will be way more cool! :D

Second that man, who cares about hardware as long it's in warranty.:D:D:D

My q6600 is lapped with 2500 grit, not in warranty. But if the board fries then idk, I am the 2nd owner of it :P I got it for $175 when it was still $240!

Quick screenshot I took last night after going to 4ghz. I bumped back down to 3.8 figuring it would be for daily use, I may just stay at those clocks.

very much doubt ure board is gonna fry at that sort of speed, but then i hav'nt owned an asus for a very long time ,so i couldnt really say for sure.

Honestly, I could not do 3.9 ghz for more then 10 mintues with my tuniq tower... water cooling gave me the BEST results while doing benchmarks. But for daily usage I really did not need it :) ... Hopefully they make some 45nm's in the future (or smaller lol :/) that will actually use it... Because I hear water cooling doesn't really help 45nm's for daily use because the voltage is dangerous or something.

Anyways, so you think 3.8ghz is safe for daily usage? Basically the settings up above in that screenshot? It passed 1 hour of OCCT, then some cs:s, and then some surfing the web, and then 2 hours straight of OCCT... with safe temps.

I call it the "Drizztbench" :P jk

How come 63C is too warm? :ROTF:

what i do is try & keep temps around 70c loaded, but in the summer in a hot room say 27-31c for 24/7 settings.

can just drop all voltages across the rig in the winter or push the fsb up a bit extra.

i used hav an e6600 that i ran with a artic pro cooler, so air. that thing used to peek at 80c coretemp & i ran it like that for a year easly. that cpu is now powering my mates rig also lol

Ya, 63c's is not warm it all for load with 1.625v's I think, hehe... I've had this q6600 up in the 80's before back when I had my tuniq (for suicide runs mostly).

I'm just going to keep it where I have it now, at 3.8ghz. I think below 1.55 for 24/7 use is a smart idea :)

Man my Q6600 is at 63C at 1.3v and 3.6G, you are lucky! I let it sit at 75-80C folding 24/7 for ages and it's fine. Harder on the board than chip TBH.

LOL I run my q6600 G0 under water @ 1.6-1.63 v 24/7 for nearly 8 months now, no issue with proc at all and its as fast as ever! loads @ 50c idles @ 29c

get digital 8 phase PWM's ftw

Ok, in a little bit I will boost it up a little higher, but 3.9ghz at these voltages is not bad I would say :) Although 4 is just such a better looking #

Btw, anyone else use OCCT? I just love it so much cause it turns off when temps get too hot so I don't really need to check up on it every 20 mins.

1,6V is fine for 24/7... Unless you plan to keep your CPU for 5 years or something.

I run my CPU at 3,8GHz on air @ 1,392V with idle temps of 45-47 degrees up to 75-80 degrees while P95'ing... No issues at all.

Xtreme or not be Xtreme. That's the question.

Maybe not 5 years.... but maybe 3? :)

My Q6600 has been running for 10 months at 3.825ghz 1.53v. Not even a slightest amount of instability. I say pound the volts too it ;)

So guys, I'm doing 4.2ghz now with 1.7v's.... 80c's idle.
