I'm trying to get his working, as the 8800gt by default does not have additional power states. I've tried to fill in the missing states into the bios, flash it and reinstall drivers, but no luck.
Interestingly, the mobile 9800gtx is not only using the g92 chip, it's using a 112sp g92 chip using 512mb of ram, perfect for the flash. As it's a mobile card, it supports different 2d/3d modes. Since I've been unable to obtain a 9800m gtx bios, I found the device id (0608), put it in the 8800gt's bios, and attempted to flash again, in hopes that the drivers will be fooled into allowing switching modes. I uninstalled the drivers and installed the latest 177.70 (http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=19719) with modified inf, but the card still detected as an 8800gt, strange. I did the standard manual driver option and forced the 9800m gtx driver to install. In the nv control panel, I still don't have powerplay options, but I have a mobile tab that has backlight settings in it. Useless for a desktop, but it is interesting to know that it is being handled at least partially as a mobile card.
With the 9800m gtx drivers, performance seems to be the same as it was with the 8800gt drivers, but I still don't have separate 2d/3d modes. I think this is because the card is still detected as an 8800gt. Using "nvflash --list", gpuz (detects 9800m gtx as well as 0611), and nibitor's device selection, the card is still recognized with device id 0611, which corresponds to the 8800gt. I think proper detection is key to getting the seperate modes.
In short, how can I force the overwriting of the device id from 0611 to 0608?
edit: In the registry, powermizer seems to be enabled, but rivatuner can't see any changes.
