How can I stop that crappy defragmenter Vista is using even though I turn off the schedule it still work's in the background making my HDD go crazy.

that's probably more indexing than it is defrag..... especially if you turned defrag sched off..

control panel - indexing options...

but I let mine run... I'd rather have an index built for fast access searches and especially leave it on for your start menu...

Aha,10X m8 anyway back to XP now sh1tty Creative drivers won't let me enjoy Vista and to go on my onboard sound is killing me.

i got no probs with creative and vista, for defragage use auslogics

Right click your drive in My Computer, Properties. Uncheck the Indexing Service.

It could also be Superfetch that is causing your hard drive activity.
Go to the Service list and disable it.

Yeap I turned those off too and I have no problems anymore however regarding HDD usage, my X-Fi Xtreme Music has big problems with vista,popping skipping etc... when the X-Fi enhancements are on,when they are off everything is fine and dandy.
I am using the latest drivers with the latest control panel and the problem is still present.
I have had soo many problems with this card even in XP because in the Creative sort of f*cked up compatibility way the sound card has problems with my PCI slot and the only way to change that is to change my Gigabyte P35 DS3R with another motherboard,this problems is present at many users.
But soon I will change to a Asus Xonar then I hope I can forget about crappy drivers and compatibility issues.

creative works if u can find the DK drivers, i cant find my installer and thats why i havnt reinstalled when i need to

The only comments about people's experiences with SuperFetch were "doesn't make noticeable difference". So, I guess that it's useless.
Also, considering that, unlike what the second article states, it increases HDD usage, it's not desirable here.
