I was offered as part of a trade an AMD64 2800+ chip, it is an engineer sample. I figured that being an engineer sample, it is an extremely good batch, pre-unlocked, and probably oc's very well... Im not sure if i should take it. pricewise, its a pretty good deal, but the chip is only 1.6 ghz clock speed.

ps: in benchmark tests, this scored lower than a 2.8c, and the 2.8c is actually cheaper by like $100 bucks. Im considering upgrading to a 3200+ 64

It sounds like it is using the original PR scheme for the A64, ie where the 1.8GHz was a 3100+.
I'm not sure whether you should take it or not, but the ES's I've seen were actually fairly ordinary overclockers - then again, this was from intel and in the P3 days.

i think i may just try for an fx-51
I have had a couple ES chips and they both were stinkers as far as overclocking. :( After the second one, I swore off ES chips. ;)

90% of the ES chips are not from a good batch, they are from early production batches...
here in germany theres already a shop where you can preorder fx53 cpus
