Nice results. Right on par with 2 x 4870's CF'ed.

There is something wrong with 3dMark03 though. I remember testing about 2 weeks ago with 8.6 hotfix i think @ 4ghz and getting around ~95000 with the 4870's at stock speeds. Now i'm getting like you are, 85k @ 790/1100 @ 4500Mhz. Don't know what caused this massive drop, tried all drivers again, same score :(

Here's a screen (not my run) to prove my point. I was getting simillar results and something made it drop by 10k. Bet you would get the same if we figure out what's causing it.

Are the clockspeeds being mis-read by GPU-Z? Actual clocks are lower than default?

The scores look pretty good! Can you cinfirm those runs were at default GPU speed Denny? :D

4870 i can only make it run about 1.3v using bios mod. haven't test the new method of bios mod; which i did on x2 this time; on 4870.

what new method would that be? If that works that would be very beneficial for the rest of us. Do you know by any chance if the bios has built in over-volt protection or if CCC is preventing us from going above 1.23 v and 1.3 v for the 4850 and 4870?

I'd wagger a 750+ in a overclocked quad system and 600+ in a dual core system ( perhaps only stock though ) I've ran 2 8800GTS with a Q6600 @ 3.6 on a 600 for a couple months.

[H] ran 2 x 4870x2's with a 800W PSU so I bet a good 750 is enough

This is a good news that bios Vol mod(1.3V) is possible now on 4870:up:
Hope you can share your modded bios with us:clap:

The HD4870 uses 1.27 stock. So that bump to 1.3 is not a mayor boost.

@Guess2098 thanks for sharing your scores !!

I hope they send em 1 of these baby's out to replace my dead 3870X2 which last 1 month before it blew - went pop, sparks flew and smoke puffed... Asus were absolute dicks about it and eventually after 3 months sorted me out with an RMA but I'm still waiting. 4months has now passed... (1 month since it left my house) :'(

I may try one of these myself. I had planned on trying GTX 260 SLi and 790i was a nightmare for me. So I am going to be on an Intel chipset. When the regular Q9650 is released I may get that, Intel X48 and a HD 4870 X2.

you can't just casually mention something like that and then stop posting on this thread

the rest of the world says you can't soft mod a 4870's vGPU at all. how did you do it? we need your BIOS!

MAybe this is an answer: there is a BIOS that lowers 2D voltage, and so far looks to be confirmed on ~1.063V (-0,2V). Since that's 0,2V lower than stock 1,263V, maybe you can push it to +0,1V as well (1,363V). You can find a lot about this BIOS in TechPowerUp "2D-low voltage" thread over here (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=67928). I still don't have upgraded cooling, so can't confirm, but you can try if you wish!

EDIT: Oh, also, there is RBE 1.13 out, which looks to be "patching" any BIOS with this same voltage tweak, so you can try adding the "tweak" to your BIOS of choice, and than adding higher voltage. Good luck! Will be waiting for results :)

i am not sure the softmod voltage is working or not. it give me better overclock but not sure it is due to voltage since i change lots of bios code

My card seems to run at 1.26v stock (assuming rivatuner is to be believed, have not prodded with a multimeter)... maybe X2's can use higher volts?

I'm facing a little problem here - i put latest 9.1 driver and my score falls with 1.300 points. I mean, with 460FSBx8.5 i had ~22k(a bit more), now with 9.1 and 475FSBx8.5~21k(a bit more), the card on stock. The problem is, i can't remember which driver was before. Is there any explanation for this, or i should install all driver and hotfixes from 8.10 to find which is? With the new driver sm2 and sm3 is lower.
