I just have a weird problem with my Q6600 temp lately. I was running it at 3.4Ghz and my idle temps for 4 cores were around 55 but when I run Prime95 or OCCT my temp quickly go up to 80 and keep going up. I know something must go wrong and I decided to reseat the TRUE but right after that I even got worse temp (around 47 idle at 2.4Ghz) and if I go up to 3.4 then all 4 cores stay at 70. Reseat again and still having the same problem. I use AS5 and I just apply a thin line on the CPU just like the instruction on AS website. Ambient temp around 75.
I doubt either something wrong with my CPU sensor or my TRUE could be damage as I notice some deep scratches on top of the base (where you put the clip on to tight 4 bolts to the motherboard). Still I'm trying to find out what went wrong and nothing is on top of my head for now. Do you guys have any ideas or experience this before?
Btw when you tight all the bolts, can you still move the heatsink like twisting it a bit? Some people put a penny between the base and the clip for tighter surface contact but I don't really think it's a good idea to do so.
