Hi! I'm about to order a new comp. Gonna use it for gaming, music production(cubase+vst stuff), photoshopping huge images, video authoring/coding and some 3D in Maya. So it's gonna be an allround cpu heavy machine. I will OC it just a tad(no watercooling).

This is what I've settled for this far:

MB: RAMPAGE FORMULA S775 X48 ATX 2XGLN+1394 SATA2R FB1600 DDR2

CPU: CORE 2 QUAD Q9550 2.83GHZ SKT775 FSB1333 12MB CACHE BOXED

Mem: 2x (8Gb total) OCZ DDR2 PC8500 4096MB KIT, Reaper HPC, 2x2048MB, Heatpipe, (CL5-5-5-18)

PSU: Corsair HX1000W PSU

OS: ENG OEM Vista Ultimate 64bit SP1 DVD

CASE: Antec Performance P182 Miditower, Gun Metal Black Aluminum

GFX: *Will buy a cheap one now and upgrade to two 4870x2 in crossfire later

SOUNDCARD:

KEYB+MOUSE:

HDD:

Comments on the above would be appreciated.. and as you can see I still need to decide on what audtiocard, system hdd and keyboard/mouse to use.

The ASUS Xonar DX 7.1 seems interesting but according to this review

http://64.233.183.104/search?q=cache:wnDwePiGgqoJ:techgage.com/print/asus_xonar_dx_71_sound_card+asus+xonar+dx+asio+vis ta+64&hl=sv&ct=clnk&cd=5&gl=se&lr=lang_en|lang_sv&client=firefox-a

it looks like it eats almost 10% cpu in certain cases. I must be Asio 2.0 compatible for my music progs.

As for HDD I don't think i want noisy raptor. Was thinking on a pretty fast 300Gb or so system disk. And a lil' bigger disk for games and programs.

The samsung f1 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152102) is one of the fastest 7200rpm hdd and has 1TB of storage. The new velociraptor (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136260&Tpk=velociraptor)is much quieter and faster than previous raptors and it runs cooler.

for gaming the xonar is nice but for audio depending on what u are doing u could get an maidio card with a via envy chip, or a firewire setup

and that reaper stuff dosnt clock well and has the handle that dosnt do anything so look at gskill or mushkin those are cheaper and cleaner
