Stop me if you have heard this one before. A couple of our guys were doing some load testing one day on some PSUs and had some fun with some "inexpensive" low end units.
The unit was rated at +3.3V@28A,+5V@34A,+12V@21A
We tested it with the 12V at 18A, the 3.3V at 20A, and the 5V at 10A on our load testers.
Check out the video clip, Why a high-quality PSU is an essential purchase.

Hah, those were some pretty spectacular explosions.
I have yet to have a power supply die on me yet, but I have had friend's whose have. I don't go "budget" with a power supply, I make sure to pick a high quality one.
I've never used a Corsair power supply, but I have heard good things about them. (I do love Corsair RAM, what with having a lifetime warranty and all!)

Buying a cheap PSU is a false economy. Buying a high quality PSU from an industry-leading manufacturer such as Corsair is the only way to ensure that the product performs as advertised, and it is the only way to ensure that a PC will operate stably and reliably. This video shows why. Music: Kevin MacLeod
No clue, Redbeard pulled it from his private collection of sailing music I think. You can Google the musician.

At one point where the camera was shaking and the sparks were flying I expected Chris Angel to pop out and fake an injury.
Thanks video, so what brand of PSU was it?

Thanks video, so what brand of PSU was it?Actually, David Blaine was inside one of the capacitors.
And, I better not say on the brand name as we are certainly not trying to slam or embarrass a competitor here.

Every PSU we have made went thru the same initial testing. A production sample will do 100% output at 50c for 24 hours in our oven. And, no, we did not film it. I guess we do a time lapse but that would be boring as nothing happened. It just kept on chuggin.

I like the ending statement but I know almost 100% sure you will get presented with a 'dramaticly exploded corsair psu' sooner or later. All hw can fail, and I think now some people might be thinking about making a video reply in youtube style showing how they can fry corsair psu's.
Idk I liked the idea and all but if you're going to do this you should mention the brand name as it gives it a lot less marketing value and more off the principal value of needing quality components.
Seems fishy that they all died at 70% load if you know what I mean.
Also by making it public, it would give brand x the chanche to either correct it's mistakes or maybe show it was truelly more marketing then anything else.
Sorry for the critical note, just seemed needed :)

Saying what you saw in testing is not slamming..
It's truth.
I keep telling people not to skimp on PSU's as they are the "foundation upon all else works".. or doesn't in this case.
You can buy crap PSU's for $50.00 or top ones for $90 and up depending on what you need for wattage/amperage.
I have 4 machines here that run at 100% load/24/7..
A Q6600 with one of your 550's in it and the 3 8 cores have PCP+C 610's and a 750..
That Q6600 has $1200.00 in parts. Am I going to be a fool and risk all of that by saving $40-50 on a PSU? Nope..
The latest dual Harper has over $3700.00 in parts were I to have to replace it. When it came to a PSU there was no question as to buying a "cheap" PSU.
None even hiccup ever. You buy good, you get good.

Just went there and worked for me... :D

That's hilarious. Having personally killed 4 cheap psu's at well under their rated output I agree - get the best quality PSU available to you that meets your power requirements. It's the foundation upon everything else is built.

Looks like either they were stretching the truth a bit with how much load they were putting on it, or sabotage.

most low end arnt rated for multi rail load, so that 75% could easily be to much for it, and that was probly a peak rating so 75% peak is about the max continuous. u have to watch how its rated i dont see why is legal to not have a continuous rating
