im pretty sure i have a bad e8500. how is intel with rma. are they fast? do you get a new one or yours refurbed?? how does it work?? my e8500 will not pass prime, orthos, occt or anything at stock speeds it fails with a rounding error at 1 second with any of them on core 1. ive swapped every part in the system minus the mobo, tried different ram, psu, gpu's, removed the hdd's and odd's removed the raid array and ran normal.. etc.. i have now tried a e2160, e2180 and q6600 with the same setup all at stock speeds and they all pass with no errors at all. also the temp sensors on my e8500 are now both stuck.

so do you think its a bad cpu?? and what should i do. it was bought from newegg retail box but i had it sitting for over a month before i was able to use it. so i dont think i can rma to them... unless they allow you to order another then send this one back i dont care and can do that. i have just never had to rma a cou before.. any help would be great thanks in advance

another weird thing.. with the e8500 i notice the scroll lock light on my keyboard flashes with it and i can not turn it off. it does not do this with the e2160 or the 2180 or q6600.. im at my wits end here..

Sounds like X38 USB issue...which is really strange...might wanna flash new bios, or if you have newest, reflash it.

i won't go into the ethics, but what you could (accidentally ;)) do is order a bran new e8500 from newegg and right when it arrives, reqeust for an RMA saying the chip that just came in did not work, and send the old one back. have it refunded instead of replacement

There is a word for what you propose - fraud. It is just that simple.

I had occasion to RMA an Intel chip a year ago. The damage to the chip was due to my negligence and I told them so. They, nevertheless gave me a RMA. The new, replacement chip was in my hands four days later. Can't get much better than that.

They don't make it too easy I don't think. I emailed them for an rma# over the weekend but still haven't gotten a reply. I am going to call tomorrow.

Intel India is pretty good with RMA, i killed a QX9650 while doing LN2 benches, ofcourse I cannot dare use the term OC to the cc guy, but nevertheless my chip was picked up from my place and a new piece recieved within a week. And here in India, it takes a couple of months to RMA other computer parts, so if Intel is that good in India, it has to be better in other places.

I had bought a fx62 at newegg, and then one at tigerdirect when I found it cheaper.

I got the two mixed up and sent the tigerdirect one to newegg. They sent it back telling me my serial numbers didn't match.

did you put tigerdirect's CPU chip in the BOX of the CPU from newegg? in that case the serial/batch number did not match the box, so that's why they sent it back. i don't think they attach the serial number of the chip to the invoice though

Never RMA'd a cpu through Intel but did RMA an X975 motherboard through them. Was very easy, got an RMA number almost immediately and had the new board quick. They even sent it overnight shipping after they received the old board...had a two day turnaround from them receiving the old board and new one shipping out. One of the better companies to deal with in relation to doing an RMA.

i had to go through the irish intel rma centre once (i'm in europe) and it was very easy working with them. called them up, got some 1st level support noob, asked for someone further up who actually knows about tech. explained what i tried and described the problem. got the cpu crossshipped. it doesn't get better than that imo
