I bought a Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX (2x2GB) bundle (the one with the supplied fan air cooler) today as well as an Intel E8400 as part of my planned upgrade, I will be buying an Asus Rampage once I get more funds but wanted to test the CPU and ram in the Commando in case they were faulty, I'd read that I would need the 1703 latest BIOS for the E8400 so downloaded that and also noted the manual settings for the CPU, its running OK at its stock speed just now, maybe a bit hot, but I'll ask about that in a different thread.

The Ram is only being reported as 3008 MB (3GB) though? I know XP32 will only show about that, but I thought the BIOS should show the correct amount?

Anyway I run a XP 32 and Vista Ultimate 64 dual boot, Vista 64 only shows 3GB as well? I guess its only showing what the BIOS tells it? Also the system managed page file is 3.22 GB, is it meant to be that large?

CPU-Z is showing 4096 though, so I guess the ram is fine.

Any ideas as to why the Commando BIOS is only showing 3008 (3GB) should I try re flashing the BIOS with ver 1703 latest again ?

Thanks.

not sure, but that might not work with dual boot since you already have XP 32bit on there. install vista64 as the only OS and it should fix this problem. flashing BIOS does affect memory mapping/addressing

u have to enable extended addressing

No option for that or anything like it in the Commando BIOS ... so long as the full 4GB is seen in the Asus Rampage Formula X48 I'll be buying next week I'm not too worried just now.

Thanks.

Advanced > Chipset > North Bridge Configuration > Memory Remap Feature...enable this in the BIOS and you should see all 4GBs in the BIOS. HTH

Advanced > Chipset > North Bridge Configuration > Memory Remap Feature...enable this in the BIOS and you should see all 4GBs in the BIOS. HTH

Thank You :)

Yes that was it, when I was in the BIOS I never thought to look in the North Bridge section, now that I think of it I remember it is the North bridge that is responsible for the Memory Controller, anyway ... enabled the memory remap feature and the BIOS now reports 4GB as does Vista 64 :)

XP 32 now reports only 2GB and the Vista 64 system managed page file has now grown from 3.3GB to to 4.3GB ... but I guess thats normal?

What I will have to remember when I get my Asus Rampage board is to install only one 2GB ram module, because other wise when I go to install XP32 of my planned dual boot XP32/Vista 64 dual boot again... XP32 will crash until I have the update needed to address the >3GB limitation for 32 bit OS's, that must be why most BIOS's limit the ram to 3GB.

Thanks again, you have been a great help :)

Cheers.
