View Full Version : My Photoshop Passion - *Virtual Cartuning * ;)

Winni
07-15-2008, 01:03 PM
Im virtually tuning cars since nearly 2 years, is still fun to make it ;)

The most of my "chops" ( thaths the word for a virtual-tuned car ) are brushed, this means
that the most parts are drawn in photoshop, not only copied from other car-pictures.
I have more more chops to show, in some time i will udate and add some other ones.

I hope you like them, when you have questions just ask ;)

Some of those look really nice man. I really love the one where you turned that R32 Skyline into S15 Silvia. The rice is kind of iffy though lol but I guess it's ok as long as it's only virtual :D

Winni

Yeah, i will post today a session of some images showing how a chop is developing ;)

I know that some chops are kinda extreme but i wouldnt say its rice, i think i have a quite good sense of design and what looks good an what not ;) Most of the chops are kinda extreme because in the virtual tuning scene the chop hast to be something special, with only changing rims cleaning something you wont get far ^^
And some of the chops were for contests so the first impression which the viewer/voter has is the most important -> the chop has to be something special, extreme ;)

It takes a looot of time, for example i worked on the Mazda 3 nearly 70 hours.
It takes so long because by the Mazda nearly everything is brushed by me in photoshop, only things like tha background are copied from real images.

Thx for your comments :)

wow that is truly amazing. from the developing yellow car, how do you go from the first to second step? do you freehand draw in all the black shapes onto the yellow body?

i photoshoped my avatar icon from scratch and it took about 10 layers and 8 hours. i cant imagine how many layers you got on there and time put into it...

Winni
09-13-2008, 06:51 AM
Usually about 250-350 Layers ^^

But I`m making a layer for every line, every small part.
Yeah, much parts are made freehand, some are made with selections.

In the near future I will show you some logos I`ve made for Spawne32 , keep your eyes open ;)

meaning what? Theres not one part of that that isnt generated graphics. And yes in photoshop. Pretty good for 7 months in PS eh? I can prove none of it is photo work (chopping) but it will cost you 10 dollars.

oh but I must add just to drown your "obvious " statement in the mire it was born in :D there are many hours of brushwork there.

100% vector and rasterized pixels, No photo anything there bud :)

@ verndewd

Looks not bad but some parts are really messy ;) for exaple the shadow, some selections etc.

But hey, where is the creativity? ^^

I really dont see the point in rebrushing a whole existing image without changing anything.
I`m always trying to make somethin new and excitning, not only "copying" the whole image.

verndewd
09-21-2008, 11:29 AM

Winni

But nevertheless, there is no creativity for me.

Okey, here is the PSD. of the 200Sx WIP.

Ive resized the whole PSD. from 2500 pixel to 640*480, it should prevent stealing parts etc. ive made ;)

Here is the Download-Link, only 2.8 MB :

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=H74M5GSK

Have fun with it ^^

EDIT : As I´ve mentioned before, not everything is brushed. For example some reflections on the chops etc. are copied from some real cars
and made fit to the new shape of the car. But the most parts are brush.
For example the reflections on the Hyundai, the Focus and the Mitsubishi are brushed by me, on the other cars its a mix of brushing and
copying ;)

There are enough people who "steal" ( copy and paste ) parts from work
an other person made. They copy parts from your work, past them on their work and claim, that theyve done it.
In the virtual cartuning scene its the worst thing what you can make, if anbody finds it out you wil get banned forever.

Thats why i dont post too big sizes of my work, thats why ive resized the psd. ;)

Thats nice tweaking going on there. as to rippers just asking them to prove versus the psd file flattens them out. Venting isnt easy and there are a large body of sites that show not only how to cartune as its termed, but how to model realostic original cars.

I think I read one car tutorial before I did the lexus and 2 ferarri's, after that I was introduced to some hot car design tuts. Rippers just need to find their way alone while the gurus throw down obstacles in front of them. That and where they take the karmic laws give back several times what was taken.
Dont fret the rippers ;)

You do some amazing work. There is one point in which you could still improve though: the wheels. Somehow they always seem a little off, if you know what I mean. The angles don't really match.

Winni
01-02-2009, 05:32 AM
I think you mean the camber ?
Im always using rims in negative camber, it looks cooler and gives more while cornering ;)

EDIT: Thats how the 200SX looks at the moment, still working on it ;) :

Nice. More reflections now.

How did you get the basic gradient 'shine' running around the middle of the car? To make it shiny. Obviously no the gradient tool since its warped around the wheel well and continues to the back.

Winni
01-04-2009, 08:31 AM
I think you mean this shine at the side ? :

http://img392.imageshack.us/img392/9268/200sx3ib6.jpg

Simply a normal selection, then im taking the brush tool and brush along the selection with a soft brush-tip.
Then im inverting the selection, less opacity on the brush-tool and again, brushing along the selection ;)
At the end im duplicating this layer, lowering its opacity and setting the blending mode to overlay.

I hope its not too hard to understand, sry for my bad english -.-

B.E.E.F.
01-05-2009, 03:34 PM
I see. I thought you did it in a more automated way to make it perfectly even along the edge.

I try an 'automated' way is to make the shape. Do the curve shape, make it white. Make a mask on top, blur it and take that blur and remove the selection from the bottom white part leaving only the edge.
