I never could get my Rampage/maximus to pull 500 fsb with a quad. So I decided to test it out on this p5q-e and much to my suprise it's working! Anyway here's what I'm testing.. I could probably come down on the vcore as that was what I ran for 3.6ghz 24hr prime stable.

That's a nice low VID. Mine is 1.3v, not the highest I've seen but not great
Great results!

3D stable? I mean, you got lots of volts headroom, so I don't doubt, but 2 mins of prime is not exactly bench stable even.

Oh yeh she's good.. that was just a SS right when I started prime. Ran 17,140 3dmark06 single hd4870. Just got done playin cod4 fer about an hour... im gonna let it prime most of today, so far it's done about 2 hours prime.

Nice result mate... P45 is so fab for high speeds... at the price of something else ofcourse :)

What BIOS settings you did? Or is it mostly on "auto"?
I am able to boot @ 516 with P5Q-DLX but it's not near stable. :(

I'll take a shot of em after she's done priming...
Off top of my head here's what I remember:
FSB Strap:333
DDR Freq:1203
CPU Voltage:1.42
Loadline Enabled
NB Volts:1.5
SB Volts:auto
CPU GTL 1:0.65
CPU GTL 2:0.67
Spectrums are enabled

Impressive, but I did this with a Maximus Formula x38 and 8GBs of RAM: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=187947

Yep, as stated earlier I couldn't get my maximus to do it.

Did you forget Spectrums enabled or it's on purpose? :D
I see you have a lot more NB Volts than I was givving, and I had both GTL @ 0.67.
Thanks for sharing it ;)

I've had some "wierd" experiences while disabling spectrums, such as inconsistent performance. Thus I run them enabled on purpose.

Yeah I found the same...it seems that FSB varies 1-2mhz each boot. Nice chip, BTW!

Well here are the screens, most of my stuff is auto... so lots of room for fine tuning.

i was able to pull 525fsb out of the same board with a q6600. the board is indeed very nice for high fsb.
Yeap, these boards are indeed benchable with Quad at 500fsb with mostly all on auto. :D

Pimping! :yepp:
I tend to believe that the 2nd best (not the high-end) Core Logics from Intel are the best IMO. Which is why I've always gone for like 865 instead of 875, 915 instead of 925XE, P965 instead of 975X and sure enough, the P45 will be my next chipset, not so much into the X38 or X48.
That's a badass speed.

Okidoki... here's the beauty of 4ghz, I haven't done any benching other than everest... hopefully once it cools down here(currently 95f ambient outside here), I'll grab some 3dmark06 runs. For comparison, I stuck my E8500 @ 4ghz shot at the bottom...needless to say, interesting.
First one up is 1000mhz DDR2 with 1:1 ratio...

That is the whole secret right there. It's a trade up. You could tell from the everest bandwidth tests how loose the PL is. As you can see from the ss below, I get better RAM bandwidth at 7x500 on X38 than he does with the p45 at 8x500 at the same frequency even with 5-5-5 timings.

i beg to differ, only 1:1 strap is truly f'd.
pl8 is do-able w/ 500fsb

however latency is not as nice :(

Lowest stable PL I could do with 500fsb/1:1 is 10, not terrible but could be better. :(

Show me 500 fsb, 1:1, PL8. Cos if I change strap, then I could PL7 on x38. Also, doesn't that dualie act differnt on strap?

As far as CPU PLL volts... what would be recommended? Is this voltage bound to same regulation as the vcore itself of 1.55 max?

Thats a no boot mate on current Asus lineup... also one of the reasons why X48 and co remain the high end enthousiast boards... but I'm pretty happy to have traded my Formula SE for this easy to setup mobo... I was so tired of all the overvolting on the X38 and instability issues... Yesterday we tried a new formula with some 9600 sticks and 4870 crossfire setup... we just couldn't get it to post stable with the Qx at 4.5.., let alone get into windows... reverting back to an older bios solved most of our issues... and really bandwith is not all that matters for most... stability is... pretty hard to find for normal users on X38/48... the learning curve from previous Intel chipsets was too big for many... and many reverted back to P35 or previous generations... P45 is easy to setup but it get's tricky at high FSB too...
I would love to see your numbers too on P45... but hardly think it will be possible... like you said it's all about compromises...

i was able to do it on q6600 and e8500... and that is actually pl7 (8 w/ pullins enabled, setting directly to 7 however results in no post) stability wise i found that 333 strap worked the best.
as i said before 1:1 is currently f'ed, changing the strap however allows better pl and faster ram. now conversely, really high fsb gives a nice bandwidth and latency that i could not achieve on x38 and x48 due to fsb limitation. 1:1 strap really starts to shine @ 550+ fsb. i guess i should re-rest on x38 and x48 when i get home as my previous maximus was fsb limited to 530ish. i can check 550fsb + pl7 (or 6 w/ cas4) to see where highfsb + pl start to make heavy gains. its going to take another week to sort through my dfi bios again to test this :( i must have been high and not uploaded the screen shots to photobucket...

Not hardly ... just had to adjust my PL to 8 for 7 x 500. By default the p45 loosens timings to get things stable. I had a Maximus Formula SE flashed to Rampage before this board, and I gotta admit this p5q-e is faster.
where do i find this 'PL' setting?
