I'm going for Intel upgrade in the near future and wanted to know what mobo to get.
I'm going to buy q9450 and 4gb of ram to go with it. I hear p45 platform would be best for me because I don't intend to use sli or cf.
I really don't want to wait for Nehalem because there's guarantee that I have the money then plus it would most definitily be costlier than buying whats out now.
So input please!!
PS. I'm not going to buy over 300eur motherboard.

I can vouch for the P5Q dlx, this week my P5Q-E should be here too... sure you need a quad ? with the 9450 most users reach 3.6-3.8ghz which is nice... with the E8400 and co 4ghz is doable which is amasing in games.... bundle the Asus board with some known working ram like the Mushkin 4gb or Gskill PC8000 range, there have been (again) Ballistix and Corsair probs, but newer biosses should resolve most of them incompatabilities... P5Q-E retails around 135 euro's the Dlx around 165 euros... great prices for good rocksolid mobo's

I doubt I really NEED the quad as so small percentage of software what I use atm makes use of my current opteron potential. The quad will hold me over until I upgrade again in couple of years time I think.
Is there need for a rampage or maximus board or is it just too much shouting about nothing platform really. I don't think I need the best of the best but rather a reasonable priced mobo with good features.
Are there any good offerings from other manufacturers?

you can get any p45 board out right now instead of waiting. when nehalems are release, you'll be paying premium prices for the board and CPU if you want one since it a whole new architecture. it won't be for mainstream until a few years later.

Gigabyte has got some nice boards too and pretty sure DFI will have soon too... absolutely no need to cash out and go plus 200 euro for day to day use man... this P45 does 500FSB day in day out with absolutely low chipset voltages on the E8400... for ya quad what's ya aim ? 3.6Ghz ?

As high as it gets. Higher the better. I don't plan to wcg or anything so if it needs some juice to get there then so be it. And apparently procs can take quite a beating as my opty runs around 2700mhz with 1.6 volts daily and has been running for a year.

I'd grab the P5Q Pro. Sounds like it's the best P45 board for the money right now. Gigabyte held that crown with P965 and P35, but it looks like they lost it this round.

Pro doesn't have the correct features in the bios to warrant high FSB stability... price difference is 29 euro's here between pro and E... and the E or Dlx is worth every cent...

The Dlx sounds like a good board. How's it overall? Has anybody opinions about
using it with Linux? I'm going to use it with Arch64 if/when I buy the board.

Didn't know that the Pro lacked BIOS options. Guess I'll have to look into the E.
