View Full Version : QX9770 - in box has heatsink marks on it. Is it normal?
Hey guys,
Just got a QX9770 CPU. Is in box and the box is sealed (well at least it looks sealed).
However the CPU has hearsink mraks on its surface - one can clearly see the square of a heatsink. Is this normal for new CPUs?
Thanks.

When you mean the box is sealed, the two tabs on each sides are attached right. Can you take a pic?

yeah a pic would be nice, also there are alot of re-boxed USED cpus going around as "new" cpus so jerk offs can make a few extra bux off epople, Where did you get it?if it's from ebay you may be screwed, I'd return it for a new one, NONE of my numerous new cpus have EVER had heatsink marks on them.

How could this even be possible? You have any idea how many CPUs Intel is making daily...they can't test them all...at lest I doubt they do.

I bet they do lot testing. It's were a few are pulled tested, and then put back in the package to sell.
If the lot test is bad, then you should know what the next step they will take then.
This is how some company's do it.
Well quiet a few replys in such a short time :)
A bit of background: yes it is an Ebay CPU from a seller that had really good feedback (from other buyers of QX9770 CPUs). I have no reason to believe that the CPU is NOT an QX9770.
All the information on the HeatSpreader is correct and nothing looks ike it has been changed. The box looks sealed - and it doesnt look like it has been tampered with.
Just like the previous poster - I beleve that those marks are form the Intel when they tested the CPU.
I will post pics tonight when I get home (about 8 hours from now).

They can have an automated process where is just presses the heat sink on it. They can test DTS functions and what not on it.

This is in relation to ? till now all my Core2 cpu's had marks on them some more visible than others... when you buy a tray CPU via Ebay I think some have been abused big time... but sealed in a box it should be okay...

not sure.. send it to me and i'll check for ya :D
nah it's normal, i've seen sealed cpus with finger prints on IHS as well :)
Sorry guys no picture - my camera is crap for close ups. I have taken a few pics but you can not see the marks....One thing that I have noticed is that the marks are in a square pattern (I think Intel hs are round now) and about 1/3 of the way towards the centre.
I believe that any hs or water block would actually covered the CPU fully.
Ohh well I will give it a good test once my motherboard arrives - still in teo minds if to wait for rampage extreme or get the ws evo ....

All of the Core 2s I've bought from STORES have came with a pretest mark... don't worry about it.

I've bought 3 retail e8400's b4 and to some degree more or less they have scuff marks on them - these are newly sealed boxes too.
