Going to be seating down and figuring out the highest Overclock on these cards as I feel there is more in them. Vista 64 benches to come as well.

Very nice indeed and the best part is the cards should have plenty left in them even on stock air.

Where did you hear that? Mine's perfectly happy at 795 core with stock air cooler @ 55%.

Yeah I have had her up to 780 core so far. Still trying to dial in the spec for benching. Some Vista 64 specs will be out next Sat as I ran out of time today.

Well come on Linchpin let's see some benches with those super high clocks on your card and do include the gpuz.
Like you drnip I just got my new 260GTX and have just played a little bit with it. I had to build and test a couple systems this weekend.
One of them was even for me!!
I did get a little time with my New card and since it was 95 degrees yesterday even with water I had to stay in the 4600mhz range.
I am pushing my memory further than you are. I am also on XP-Pro.
I'll just post one so as not to try and take over the thread.
This card features the most stunning DVD playback I have ever seen!!

As you can see all my clocks are still consevative and I see from your clocks I can go farther!!
I pushed a bit more on aquamark.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v253/WeldZilla/260GTX/aqmk3260gtxruna.jpg
Note I got the mem up over DDR2600 without a problem.
Thanks for posting up your tests!
Gives me more to think about. Perhaps this should be turned into a 260GTX owners thread!!

28k!!! Is that with sli or tri sli. I assume it is tri. I will need to bump my memory it looks like. I have had my core up to 2870 as well.

That is with one single card running on the Asus P5E look closely at the futuremark result page. Down to the lower section it will tell you what my board is.
This is a powerhouse for a single card!!

Maybe we sholud get this thread moved to the vid card thread.
My card is the MSI. I picked it up from the newegg for $299.
Just couldn't pass it up!

Thanks, I might still try and get the memory to the DDR2600 mark but I doubt it will play along.
EDIT:
Doesn't want to work properly at 2600, passed ATI Tool Artifact scans fine but I got a driver error when I began looping the Crysis benchmark.

I don't see how you hit 28k with one card. Here is my score with one card:
17776 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=7414474)
Of sourse that was only at 4.5ghz on the cpu. If I would have had it at 4.725ghz it would have been 18-19k.

nice scores:up:, If I weren't getting the 4870, I would get the 280, and if I didnt get the 280, id get the 260 (or two 4850's :) ).

But isn't your 17776 score in 3D Mark 06 and his 28k score is in 3D Mark 05? Or am I misunderstanding something here.

Dual 260's is an area a lot of folks are missing out on - but it hits the sweet spot of what SLI is really all about, 2 mid (mid high in this case) range cards that do a fantastic job doubled up.
Nice, nice work.

That is a pretty nice score. My score at 4.5ghz was the 17,776. I will have to get back in there and set my gpu specs to yours and see the difference with my ddr3 board and your ddr2 board.

Thanks, hopefully if enough of us get in here and keep experimenting we'll be able to better optimize these really great cards. I just can't get over the DVD playback quality.
I read a test of this card aswell as the 280 and the 4870x2. On DVD playback they all three scored the highest on the testing program ever!
all 3 scored a 128 out of a possible 130.
Well I am just very impressed by everything about this card.

Sorry that this is an off topic, but would I be better off with one of these 260's over my 8800GTX, or maybe a couple of 512mb 9800GT's?

One of these would do you good over your 8800gtx. Don't bother with the 9800gt's.

performance is gonna be similiar to 9800gt sli when you overclock the gtx 260.
and with the gtx 260, you have the option of doing sli in the future still.

grimreefer 9800gt's are basically 8800gt's, which 2 basically make a 9800gx2 which is equal to a gtx280 or a little faster.
So it's kinda better to say equal to a gtx280

Thanks for the replies, Im looking at upgrading while my computer is down,
but I'm sick of paying for high end, only to be let down by it,
so this time I was thinking of a quick dual core, with a 750i mobo, and a GTX260.

I thought the 9800gx2 was basically 2 9800gtx's on one PCB? Please excuse my ignorance if I am wrong.

i think its two 9600GT's on one Pcb
Caveman787
07-31-2008, 08:23 AM
No it's got 128 stream processors per gpu so it's 2 low clocking 8800gts but they have basically 8800gt performance.

yea, 2 underclocked 9800gtx's.
Caveman787
08-01-2008, 08:17 AM
excuse my ignorance, but if that's the case why can't you clock the 9800gx2 up to the clock's the 9800gtx can reach?

From what I understand the GX2 has lower vGPU than the 9800GTX so it's more like 2 8800GTS 512's.

yea, but it has the same video decoder and opengl 2.1 optimizations that the 9800gtx has and the 8800gts doesn't.
anyway, back on topic, it would be interesting to bench this alongside a gtx 280, so we can see at what frequencies a gtx 260 needs to be equal to or faster than a gtx 280.

I'm looking to switch to an E8500 and a GTX 280 in a month or so hopefully so I'll see what I can do, sadly I'll have to sell my 260 first though.
Here is a 3dmark06 run in xp. This card is a beast:)
