I waited overnight for the first time in my life to buy something. It was alright tho, I got some friends to come will with me and do stuff. This is the first product I have ever bought from apple. I'm really tired, because I have had no sleep and my number is still being ported over anyway. I will give my feedback after a quick nap. If it even matters, I'm sure there are 100s of reviews but still why not. Will report back shortly... ;)

Ok so I woke up and everything has gone great so far (fingers crossed). As soon as I updated Itunes, it basically finished activating itself once I plugged it in. I had no problems using it with xp. There isn't really any manual at all with this phone, I guess you just have to experiment and poke around a lot. I have been a few calls and they all worked fine. The syncs have all gone fine, I am currently filling it up with music we shall see how that turns out. I keep hearing different things about whether or not it does have stereo bluetooth tech, I'm not really sure what to think. The screen is very easy to read from any angle I will take it outside and see how the auto screen adjuster works for compensating for the light. So far I have no regrets, I have been an apple hater my entire life, but after vista I sort of tried to look at apple with less bias. I will report more as I find out more. If anyone has any questions I will try and answer them the best I can.

im curious to know what motivates someone to wait outside a store all night to get a phone... if i cant call my home planet, id be seriously disappointed.
Because it's made by Apple and that's how people roll.
Side note...I don't think I'll be upgrading to the 3G handset. The decrease in battery life from the high-performance network and more expensive plan turn me off. Think I'll keep the EDGE one for now. I'm sure there will be a newer one coming out next year anyway.
P.S.: It's extremely ironic being able to use the iPhone to post about how unimpressive it really is. Love that.

What really intrigues me is how in the world a $199 piece of plastic (I also have one and never was that impressed either), can go for $1100 on ebay right now!!!???
That's the worst in human kind...

You should have seen the ruckus the launch caused over here. As I was walking to work I have to cut through the shopping part of Brisbane and all the phone providers had lines outside their stores with security. People were chanting iPhone repeatedly and I overheard one interviewer from Channel Ten ask someone why they want an iPhone. The person said that this was the next stage of embracing Apple to be a true member of the Apple community and that this is the trendy item of 2008.
At least all the nutters and computer illiterate people who group together to boost their confidence have bought theirs. Now the rest of us can walk in and not feel like a dork.
To the OP, if you can't find a bad thing about it you are part of this 'Mac community'. Nothings perfect. We want blood.

Seriously, I even slept in and got one! Only the 8 gb though.
And IMHO this phone is a BAMF.

I hope your prices are nice. To buy the 8 Gb iPhone without a contract will set you back $749 AUD which is like $719 USD. Who's getting ripped off? :p:

Just got a 16GB White....had an exam this morning so had to wait till the afternoon. Line was only an hour, maybe a little less. Got to play on my original iPhone in line for a precious goodbye (well, it's basically a thicker iPod Touch now :p: ) though :)
Got myself a Black 16GB and as for all the thread bashing homos stay out of here if you have nothing nice to say about the iPhone. The title didn't ask for rude comments now did it?

My voicemail button won't work. I have called it with another phone and set up the voicemail, but the button on the iphone refuses to do anything. I have set up the iphones for the rest of my family and they work fine and do not have this problem. I have looked around on the web for an answer but have found nothing to work so far. Maybe mine is slightly defective, more likely however is that there is just a problem with my sim card.

I've stayed up all night clicking the refresh button on websites so that I could grab first batches of new videocards from overseas....can't see how waiting in line for a phone is any worse.

i guess i just dont understand the big deal over a phone. i live here in los angeles, and i would say about 40% of the people here "HAVE" to get the new iphone because if they dont, they are no longer "fashionable."
so what is the big deal then? you can make calls, browse the web and ??? i guess i just dont get it. im not trying to bash apple or anything, i just dont understand the point of waiting forever for something you already have.
personally, i dont even own a phone. they give you brain cancer.
and for the record, i have never waited all night for any product. it was readily available any time i wanted it. always just walked in and bought it immediately or just ordered it online.
I would not wait in line over night nor for a week for anything either. But as for a phone the iPhone is the best phone I have ever owned hands down. But this is what we call an opinion. Everyone has there own and no reason to complain about someone else.
I did not buy my iPhone because everyone else has one, in fact where I live I am probably 1 of around 10 that own one. I want fast data access and my area will be up for 3G by August 30th or I would have stuck with my older iPhone. The GPS is nice and I have found it to be very accurate. Mainly the new thing is Apps though and any iPhone gets that. The iPhone will have more Apps than any other SmartPhone by the end of the year I bet. I mean at launch 533 Apps alone. As a developer you cannot beat the revenue on it. Super Monkey Ball has made so much money and I must say that game is awesome and addicting.

The waiting in line for the iPhone can be directly compared to waiting in line for a game console.
The reasons why people wait are the same;
Early Adoption
Attractive New/Improved Features
New applications/games
Brand Loyalty
and of course ebay'ers
