I think it is a good idea to create a HDD backup before I start playing around with my new build (see my Sig)

I have 2 identical HDDs, I have everything setup in one of them and I have just clone everything into the second drive using Ghost.

Then I switch the boot sequence in BIOS and booted up using the cloned drive.

Everything seem going fine, but I saw one error msg, svchost need to be terminated.

rebooted, see the same. I smelled a rat :P

I found that although I really booted up using the cloned drive, my "new" Windows XP use the original drive as C: drive. When you think about it, it is actually very reasonable, because all the setting are cloned from the original XP installation, including HDD mount point for c: and d:

Now I wanna ask, if there any way to manually change the mount point? "Disk Management" in "Administrator tools" can't help, as c: is always in use can cannot be changed.

isn't ghost used for if your original drive/partition corrupts, you can load everything back on it from the ghost drive?

I've not tried Ghost, but when cloning disks with r-drive image (http://www.drive-image.com/) and acronis TI (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/), they cloned everything, including the drive letters.
I've just used Acronis to clone my main OS drive. It rebooted the PC, copied the partitions, drive letters and MBR and then shutdown the pc to allow me to disconnect the old drive and swap them around. I'm now on the new drive with the same drive letters as before.

or use gparted, a free opensource partitioner.

I've used the dos ghost before and don't worry about booting up into your backup partitition. What you should do is just save the ghost image file to your secondary hard drive and then if anything goes wrong with your primary you can just reformat it with the image you have saved. That's how I used to do it. If I were you, I wouldn't clone it, just keep the ghost backup file.
