Hi ppl @ xtremesystems, first of all i salute you, finally getting the activation of the account after waiting for several months to get a damn OC on a bad axe 2 (what a headache), but well i stay on topic :p:

The thing is that my Q6600 doesnt want to know anything with OC, it just doesnt want to run the operating system (Which is Vista 64Bits). But it POSTS OK.

to give you and idea what i tried, i raised CPU voltage to 1.5v, and started to test 334 FSB, no result, 300 No result, above 300 doesnt wanna know anything at all, and first i thought they were the memories who were messing with me.

so my question is, am i skipping some detail to why does the processor dont want to know anything with oc? or is it some other voltage i need to adjust, like the SB one? because in my old P5K nothing was needed (to note it, i passed from a P5K to an EVGA 680i SLI LT, a Striker, and in the end the maximus)

and if you got some recommendations to what to change in the bios to boost performance please i would welcome them (such as if the transaction booster is good to be active).

changed values in the bios are:
-CPU voltage at 1.5v.
-DRAM voltage at 2.2v.
-NorthBridge voltage at 1.6v (without changing this with a kingston memory first, the crucials wont boot up, in the begining they would, i guess the newer bioses have reapplied old bugs).
-vanderpool active (i work with virtual machines).
-C1E disabled.
-EIST disabled.
-Execute DB disabled.
-5-5-5-15 latencies for the memories and 1066 of frecuency at 2T.
-SATA act as RAID.

The hardware involved is:

- Intel Q6600, B3 serie, with a Thermaltake Big typhoon VX
- Asus Maximus Formula (Bios 1201 Beta)
- 4x 1Gb Sticks of Crucial Lanfest 2K7 @ 1066 Mhz 5-5-5-15 (dominator fan)
- 4x WD 160Gb SATAII in RAID10
- Pioneer DVR-212D
- Asus 8800GT with Accelero S1 rev2 / Turbo module

ill leave you a screen of what the softwares can tell me in numbers:

thanks in advance :D

cheers

First of all when testing an overclock use only 2 sticks of RAM. It narrows down your problems when you are having issues OCing. Next start your RAM at 800 instead of 1066. That will take your RAM out of the picture. You can test those things after getting your CPU OCed.
You want to only be stressing the CPU for now.
Leave your FSB strap to NB on auto. Set CPU PLL to 1.6( or whatever is the highest value that's green).
Set FSB termination to 1.2
Enable Loadline calibration
CPU GTL ref 0.63
NB GTL ref 0.67.
Try that and post your results.

sorry about not answering, i was in a bussiness trip =/

i started testing with your specs, and the machine didnt boot up, so i reflashed the bios, and started to work correctly dunno why that.

but now i have another problem. the assasin DET DRAM Crucial memory on a maximus formula problem. i cannot boot up if i dont use a kingston common memory to change the NB voltage to 1.61, and in the beggining 1.61 was enough for the 4 modules, but i dont know if the motherboard is degrading itself or what, but i doenst want to post with the 4 modules in it, even with a 1.72v in the NB, only it boots up with 2 modules.

i must add that the memory modules independently pass memtest OK one by one.

somebody has a light on this?

i can't help you with the memory but i can help you with the overclock set the fsb at 335 and Vcore at 1.48 and north bridge at 1.6 or whatever your max safe voltage is mine is 1.5 and put your ram at 800Mhz and timmings around 6-6-7-15 and see if it boots. if it is stable put your ram back at normal speed and see if it stable then.

Geeze, you guys are really cranking the voltages. Easy with that stuff. Mine can run 4 sticks at 1.33 volts on the NB at 400 FSB. Only when I get to 450 do I need anything like 1.5. And, without active cooling going above 1.51 only makes mine more unstable. Drop your multiplier and downclock your ram. Set the FSB up and start trying voltages starting with the bare minimum. Then start working on your cpu by raising the multiplier.

The little problem, as i posted up, is that crucial doesnt go along with the maximus, so even at stock settings, with 1gb wont boot, unless i volt up the NB to 1.61 with another brand of memory, and 4gb still wont works as they did before, so im going nuts.

Upping the volts won't "cure" dying ram, only band-aid the problem until it again needs more volts. Do yourself a favor and either RMA or sell the ballistix and get something else.
