I just received my HD4870 (Sapphire) and noticed the following:

The core clock readings @ GPUz and Catalyst control center say its running @ 500Mhz, tough the slider says its running at 750mhz. I tried lowering the speed to 500, raising it to 760 but the reading wouldnt change!

So is this just a lack of drivers (there arnt any drivers available at the ATI website for the 4xxx series)

In GPUz sometimes it shows those weird values too, and some folks at HWbot have used them in their submissions :D, tough it shows 500 when i turn it on

10000% core OC, go for it!!:D

On topic:

Try to run 3dmark06, and then lower the core clock by something like 100mhz, and then try 06 again. If the score is quite a bit lower now, the n at least the actual core clock is changing.:)

ati cards have an idling feature to reduce gpu stress, kinda like intel speedstep. when you are not running 3d apps, it will reduce clock/mem speed and core voltage.

Yep just checked it out, ran the Test Custom clocks part and it changed to my preset value.

BTW anyway I can turn this off?
