I just bought a new Mobo for my media PC, which is 3 weeks old, all new stuff, I was using a Asus P5E-VM-HDMI (which ran flawlessly!!) but thought better of it, that will go into a new LAN box I have coming along!
Now I made the mistake of buy a XFX Geforce 630i, the 7150 version to be precise, which I read heaps of great reviews on!
now i swapped all existing hardware onto this Mobo, and did a fresh install of Vista Ultimate, I figured it would be very similar peformance considering its just for movies!! DVD movies to be exact!
Now upon installation of Vista I noticed extremely laggy behaviour of Vista :shakes:, and all the menus! so i download all new drivers and that didn't do anything, and it didn't even fix my screen constantly turning off and on , which is connected through HDMI.
I have now played with the Bios to no help and I dont think its the single channel memory the Mobo has, I am now unsure if I should just go back to my Asus board or try and fix this board??
Does anyone else have one of these boards so I know its the Mobo or just my particular board.
After this depending on how it turns out, it might be the end of my relationship with XFX
Any Help would be great, thanx
P.S.
I am Running
E2180 @ 2ghz
2x 1gig OCZ DD2 6400 @800
WD 640gig HDD
corsair 520w PSU
Vista Ultimate, SP1
plus all latest drivers

I haven't noticed any lag issues with the 630i. Have you updated the BIOS on it yet? What is the product code for the board? There are two different 7150s.

I updated the Bios last night to no help, and the product code is MG-630i-7159.
Im seriously considering throwing it into the bin, I cant even watch a DVD on it!! thats really sad!

i would say it has to be a graphic problem or error..
I had that problem on my go 6800 and all I needed to do what update the drivers..

yeh I thought the same, I installed the latest drivers from XFX, then after that failed I got the latest drivers for the Graphics from Nvidia. didn't help at all :(
Im Actually stripping out my SFF case and putting my Asus board back in at this point, so the XFX board will be on my test rig....

umm... well.. considering how much of a resource hog Vista is, u reckon the fact that the mobo chipset has no dual channel RAM capabilities, it might have something to do with it?
so, it has nothing to do with XFX, just another crappy nv chipset :yepp:

Well in all honesty the lack of Dual Channel Ram should not effect things to this point, I do not Believe for one second that thats the cause of the problem because even if I run 1 stick of ram in the p5e-vm it still performs alot better.
AND YES ANOTHER CRAPPY NV CHIPSET IS RIGHT ON!!!! after this it will be the last of Nvidia for me, off to ATI for gfx and back to AMD for me, this is my first intel computers for some time, and im not very impressed so far! yes I am running a crap CPU (E2180) but its for a media PC, nothing special!
and yeah your right on the money again with Vista being a hog, but show me a better Media PC OS and i will change, Media Centre for movies is great, its all about ease of use, and media centre works well with a remote...

its kinda late over there in brizzie! :)
*breath in, breath out* :D
relax bro
well u got everything except a mobo - try an asus based on an intel chipset - i reckon it'll do the trick man! :yepp:
as for OS - never had a HTPC before - but I do have one in the works.. I am planning on using Win Media Centre 05 - based on XP I believe - would this OS suit u?
hope u had a great saturday night m8! :toast:

Yeh I was PISSED! it was a big night last night, sorry if I seemed angry, well i kinda was im a lil shocked with the drama ive been having with it :(
Yeh I have a p5e-vm HDMI but i was gonna save that for my gaming lan rig, but now im using it as my Media PC until I get this XFX board sorted, gonna drop a Celron in it today and see if the E2180 was the issue, a new stick of ram and a new PSU...
as for Media Centre 05 i will go get a copy and see if this works any better.
As for the HTPC I was sick of compromising my gaming PC to meet my media needs, after this it will be purely for games, NOTHING else, not even surfing the net.... :)

maybe an hdd problem? or is it a new hdd?
have you run memtest? Your system running crappy, can't be just the mobo

it was a brand new HDD, WD 640gig, and as for the ram, it runs great in the P5E-VM HDMI mother board i Have... so i dont think thats the problem either??
All i can think is MAYBE the 8pin power connecter is busted on the PSU, because the P5E uses the 4pin, will buy another PSU anyway so i will check with that and get back to you all.
