that is the question, well now that I have decided to get the Q6600 i was thinking about lapping it to 1500/2000 grit, or maybe just lapping my tuniq tower when it comes in......does anyone have advice or some evidence that lapping can substatially bring down ur temps enough to justify voiding your warentee?

I would recommend it with the CPU. My e6600 had the waterblock barely touching the edges without lapping. As for the Tuniq, it is probably trivial.

but how drastic was the temperature drop?

Depends how much you value the processor and what you plan on doing with it. I personally never lap processors as I tend to uhh.. not treat them nicely. A cheap processor that you can write off, I'd say go for it, but past $200 or so, then I'd be a bit more cautious. It's no fun to have a lapped and polished bookmark.

I got 5c drop and a little closer across the cores but I don't know that I would do it again. If you lap one do both and get the best out of voiding your warrenty :hehe:

rofl...yeah i might lap my tuniq if i find it to be to convex but idk if i will do my Q6600 because tuniq's cost me 35 rather than throwing 200$ down the drain
