Hey there,
I adjusted my timings to more aggressiv ones on my previously stated p4p800 motherboard.
And the fcking bios crashed. And I mean crashed and burned. Totally wasted. I don't even get picture.
Is there anything I can do?
I tried resetting cmos, ripping out the bios battery and so forth but to no avail.
I'm all out of ideas.
Thanks

Asus has the easy-flash method in addition to the other methods for flashing your bios. If you have your bios on a floppy, or create one, you can click Alt/F2 during boot and proceed to reinstall your bios. It's outlined in the manual.

I think I will try that..
Do I need to create a Msdos bootdisk? Or just put the afudos.exe and the bios .zip file on the disk?

Just the open bios file on the floppy. You will have to rename the bios file P4C800.ROM

Or in my case: p4p800.rom?
hum. I tried just putting the p4p800.rom file on the disk, but still. No post, No picture.

Yes, P4P800.ROM
Did you not get any response from pressing Alt/F2 during boot. Do not start with the floppy in . Wait untill you get a screen with instructions first.

The screen is black. Constantly.
I tried formatting the disk, just putting the p4p800.rom/p4c800.rom and pressing alt/f2 like a maniac and holding the combo in. But, no results.
I'm going to try it with a cdrom now. Maybe my comp doesn't like floppys since it was inactivated in the bios when it went haywire.
like I said. I think the bios is fcked.

I need something like "a bootable bios disk" or something like that.
Some §§§§ that bypasses my fcked bios and replaces it. I don't know what to do :/

Have you gone to asus's site and read their instructions for flashing the bios? (and then done what they said)

Don't flash your bios. It is not the reason for your problems. Asus has made a bad batch of boards! I presume you've tried resetting CMOS?? If that doesn't get you back to a post screen, then pull your memory and borrow some fast memory from a friend. It worked for someone else and I presume it will for you.
Somehow the bios is not letting go of the aggressive memory settings even when resetting your cmos. In my book, that is a board ripe for RMA because resetting cmos should put your timings back to soft settings or default settings.
If you get the post back, I would then try a flash to the latest bios using the "n" switch which updates NVRAM, to see if it corrects that problem. Do this:
A:\afudos /ip4p800.xxx /n
The bios file name that I used is an example. Just make sure the file name isn't any longer than 8 characters in front of the extension.

Everything you told me to do I have already tried.
And the post is still gone. I got some info on a bios savior. But I think I'll just send the board back to Asus since I don't want to risk the warranty by removing the bios from the board.
I sent Asus an email already but no response. Yet.
They can't ignore my cries forever!
Btw, I know how to count with CET (Central European Time), GMT (Greenwich main time) but what the §§§§ is PST (Pacific Standard Time)? Because I've been trying to call Asus in the USA but to no avail. Each time I call the office is closed.
I live in Sweden so I think each time I sleep their office is open. Damnit.

You could buy a replacement bios chip from Excaliber and be back up and running in days instead of weeks with an RMA. ;)

PST is Pacific Standard Time which is 3 hours earlier than East Coast time (EST=Eastern Standard Time).
Why don't you call the German ASUS facility shown on Page "X" of the manual?

And where, in Sweden mind you, will I get my gready hands on one of these?
Can't I ask Asus to send me a replacement bios?

It says in the manual the german facility only handles boards from Austria and Germany. Filthy germans.. :stick:

Sorry...your location is blank. :(
It's worth a try to ask Asus.

You can buy them from Asus.

The latest from the first wave of attack.
I called asus in Sweden and they basicly told me to §§§§ of.
Well, IT Workshop handles all Asus stuff in Sweden so it was they who ruined my day. Damn them.
And still no response from the mail I sent to USA based Asus. That sucks big time. Asus, I expected a wee bit better support.
But then, like a lightning from a clear sky, my teacher told me he had an EEPROM programmer at home (!) so he might be able to help me. Wei!
I'm handing him my bios tomorrow, It felt like if I ripped out someones heart when I removed the bios with painstaking patience.
This is a fortunate turn of events though. We shall see what happens.

Varland I hope it works out for you. If not there is a thing called hot flashing. You have to have access to a duplicate of your board and basically flash you old bios chip using their rig. I've done it a couple of times but it makes me pucker.

Crap.
My teachers programmer couldn't handle the PMC Flash type memory. Ouch, that shot a bullet through my hull.
Ah well. I guess I'll have to pay 150kr (~15$) for having my bios reprogrammed by a real company. §§§§.
Ah well, it beats buying a new board.

And get another spare chip for down the road...hehehehehehe

If you have a friend with the same board, ask them to hotflash your corrupted chip....free and fast. I have hotflashed a dozen times with 0 problems, but makes sure he understands that there is a small risk of his bios also corrupting.;) Then order some blank backups and hotflash them as well...give one to your friend for his help. ;)

Oddly enough, pull the cmos battery and then power up.....
