gaming on a mac?

hey.
i just ordered a mac from apple. i have 0 experience with macs so lets see if anyone can help me. i suppose ill start with the specs that i chose...

its the new macbook pro...
i got the 2.6ghz upgrade
4gigs of ram
200gig 7200rpm harddrive
and im not sure if it matters but i got the glossy high res screen
oh also its the 17inch model...



so ive heard of people playing crysis on their macs. so obviously im going to be running on bootcamp..does this hinder performance? what settings and fps can i expect to get out of crysis? anything helps!!

Bootcamp alone doesn't hinder performance, it's just Apple's way of allowing you to boot into a windows partition. The graphics card that you have in the Macbook Pro will be the limiting factor in games.

You can use BootCamp and a lot of games will run fine. Also you can use VMWare and Parallels Desktop and it will play certain games very well. Oh and CrossOver Games runs quite a few games as well. Hope that helps out a little.

No real hope to play crysis on that screen, its too high res. You would need to have it at low to get ANY fps out of it. My 15" MBP with a highly overclocked video card can barely hit 40 fps at medium, and youre running much higher resolution.

Any game besides crysis should play fine.

For Crysis to run on anything you need a real high end PC. That game is way too demanding.

But look at it this way you can play SPORE!!!! YAY!! Rock on SPORE! :)

one things foru sure, you can play solitaire on it =P

WoW and Spore work fine in OS X

This mac is probably 8600GT or 2600XT

I think you can play crysis medium at 1280 res or even high when AA is disabled
you can also play COD4 with everything max.

that's incase you install windows and got 8600gt-2600xt with it.
