Yeah, this is an anoying one, just been reloading some of my backed up files onto my computer after formatting and every time i go into this one file explorer is shutting down.

The only thing in the file other than more files are videos, now i've had problems in the past where explorer has crashed because it's had trouble generating thumbnail images for video fiels. i did have a program that disabled this function but i cant find it, i think itwas lost in the format.

also, when i first tried to acess the folder while it was on the CD windows crashed and came up with an error, something like, the application has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. it said click here for more infomation, so i did and it saidsomething about the program not preventing viruses being installed but prevents memory actions that are produced my malicious software. i didnt really pay much attension to this so i just scaned the disk to see if it had any viruses on it, it didnt, so i copied the folder to the hard disk incase it was the drive.

Also, i have a second disk with the same infomation on it but a few extra files only it's a DVD-RW, when i put this in the drive windows gives me the auto play list and i click open folders to view ect.. but there are no files in it! it seems completely blank! although i know it had the infomation on it.

have you guys got any idea what's wrong?

Edit:
I've just tried the DVD in another computer and it seems to be empty still, but the files were burned to it! you can see the track burnt into the disk! any one know how i can recover these files?

i've also tried the CD in another computer and it works perfectly! it's got to be something to do with this computer, i've installed XP SP3 and a very large codec pack for audio and fideo files.

Edit2:

Ok, i've fixed one of the problems, i've dissabled video thumbnails, this is the same problem as before, i dont understand how this problem has managed to suvive through a complete windows reinstall! the last time it happened when i insalled the Nimo codec pack, however this time i installed a completely different codec pack!

i dissabled the thumbnails with this command prompt code:
regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll
to renable the thiumbnails you have to type "regsvr32 shmedia.dll"

I'm still at a loss with the DVD though.
