Hello,

Would anyone happen to know how to move an operating system from one drive to another?

Many thanks

I think most people use Acronis TrueImage. Fast, easy and works great.
Well worth your money (True Image Home 11 isn't too expensive).
If you're looking for a free solution, I'm afraid I don't have one. Not for Windows...

Disk imaging software like Acronis TrueImage or Norton Ghost.

Thanks for the advice, I don't mind paying for software to do the job, as long as its done right ;)

Once again, many thanks :)

I have a further question. After hours of searching I can't find a solution.

Is there anyway to move installed programs from one disc to another. Incudling games etc? I'm using Vista Premium 64 Bit,

Thanks

there should be a way to use Windows' own backup utility, running "shadow copy" which means that even files in use will be backed up. You can then restore that to wherever you want, your new drive for instance. You can do that for the whole OS as well I suppose, and when you're done with the backup and restore just reboot and swap the drives. I'm not saying that this will work 100%, but if it doesn't you can always switch back to your old drive and try a third party software solution.

I've had a look through all of Windows backup utilities but can't find out how to do what you describe.

Just to confirm, I have programs, say Cryisi installed on drive C, I want to move it to drive D. Can I do this without uninstalling and reinstalling?

Thanks for your help

not without moving the OS as well, unless you're ready to mess with the registry, to indicate to Windows where your game is installed...which is unthinkable to do, so in a general way if you want to move a program to another drive, you must uninstall and reinstall it.

I thought so, no problems, I just hoped there would be an easier way.

Thanks for your help :)
