Im worried my new crossfire rig isnt running on 100%, when i choose the 2nd card in GPU-Z the bus shows it is only running @ x4

http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/4405/gpuzav8.jpg

Asus Maximus formula motherboard
2 x HD4850's

Its the same on my Vista and XP OS, ive reinstalled the drivers twice, increased the northbridge a little, out of ideas. Im sure I have seen the second card @ x8 once

Is this normal ?

Please can you show me your GPUZ for both cards.

TIA!

that would be a board issue, check in bios for a crossfire setting. you may need to disable the PCI-E x1 slots, I don't know. that board should support 2x16 slots by default.

I did have a Asus xonar pci-e sound card in but have removed it, ive then reinstalled the ati drivers but its still x16 / x4.

Ill look in the bios tonight.

Could the mobo be faulty ?

I have two HD4870's and I have both CF cables connected (also tried 1 only) and Catalyst 8.6 Hotfix driver and even I've enabled CrossFireX in CCC but GPU-Z (version 0.2.5) is showing ATI Crossfire as "Disabled (CrossFire available)"... what gives?

PCI-E are showing workin as 8x (this is on P45 chipset Asus P5Q-E motherboard)

Hmm, weird the maximus is an x38 board so you shouldn't be getting x16 x4, that's only with p35. Try using the asus ez flash to update your board's bios, and that doesn't work go to the bios and manually set the pci_e lanes to x16 x16

The bios is the latest 1201, i cannot see anywhere in the bios to manually set the lanes to x16 x16.

The p45 boards run crossfire at 8X8 that is normal for the board. the other poster's board should be running them at full speed though.

Fixed it, i used a different 6 pin pci-e and its fine, it seems the 2 i was using were overloading one rail.

Running 100% at last :)

Yeah thanks, I am aware of that :) I just mentioned that because that is what should be if I have two cards installed, which is again I wonder why GPU-Z is showing that CrossFire is not enabled but available

maybe when I get home from work I should try swapping around the PCI-E power connectors... see if makes any difference... by the way, on my PSU (this is dual 650W/550W PSU from Antec P190 case) there are 4x PCI-E connectors from the 650W PSU (this one powers motherboard/CPU/VGA and 55W is for other peripherials such as HDD/CDROM/Fans/etc). 2x PCI-E connectors are 6-Pin and 2x are 8-Pin. How do you connect them? Right now I have both cards connected to one of each.

Also 3DMark06 shows in System Info there are no linked cards and I get around 19700 points in 3DMark06 with E8500 running at 4GHz

did you enable xfire in CCC? Also p45 does x8 x8 pci_e 2.0, that's essentially the same as x16 x16 pci_e 1.1

Fixed it, i used a different 6 pin pci-e and its fine, it seems the 2 i was using were overloading one rail.

Hmm.. Gonna try that hotfix and diff. 6pin, having similar weird issues - and xfire is nowhere to be found (8.6)
