If you have a 4870, do the 4 lights on top of your card flash on and off once during reboot?

My second from left (as viewed in a typical setup) does not flash...

I am having serious problems with my card. Drivers and CCC will not install.

I think they all do that during boot, have you tried uninstalling all nvidia and ATI drivers and then running driver cleaner pro under safe mode?

sup Battle_Rattle ;) tell you what, after I got two of mine cards revived I could no longer get CCC to start at all. It would install all fine but it would not run... no error... nothing (and yes I did have NET Framework 2 installed prior). I went for OS reinstall and it's working fine now, so yeah, how I work is, when I am completely out of any more ideas as to why some software doesn't wanna work and I know I've done everything right I go for fresh OS install and pretty much always it solves the issue, unless it was some hardware failure of course :)

EDIT: oh and... on my cards the second LED does not flash either but the card is working fine

Heya,

I actually had the same driver install problem with my 4850. Previously, I had a 3870 on my system on a fresh Vista64 install for my summer build. I uninstalled the 8.6s, installed my 4850, then installed the hotfix driver and got the same error message you got. "No ATI Graphics driver is installed, or the ATI graphics driver is not functioning properly. Please install the ATI driver appropriate for you ATI hardware." I tried both the install CD, and hotfix multiple times, along with uninstalling, and still couldn't get to work.

Took me like 45 mins, but I resolved the problem by doing a manual install via Device Manager 'update driver' instead of running the Setup Installer. I forget the path, but it was C:\ATI\Packages... or something similar. Afterwards my card worked fine and has been smooth sailing since. Plenty of vmod torture awaits....

i got 4x 4870, all of them only do 3 lights on the top (provide 3 phase power on the core), so i think it is normal!

one card have problem after i reinstalled the heatsink with some better thermal paste(non-conductivity one), the problem same as you...... and a message say ' no ati display adapter is found. this card i have returned to the shop and replace a new one already.

i inspect this card, i cant find any external mechanical damage .....maybe i damage the card internally(inside the board) when i reinstall the heatsink. But i just do the normal procedure....why damaged so easily???

does this possibly have anything to do with the built-in audio these cards have? i know i always let Windows automatically install a driver for the audio portion of the cards after i've manually installed CCC and the ATI driver for the video. this is a one time deal you only have to do when you first install a new ATI card with built-in audio.

Tried everything to my knowledge and search knowledge... Had to reinstall and everything is working well now.

IRQ's were fine
Drivers uninstalled and Regedit ok
different slots
different power cables
Driver only... CCC only
Hotfix extract and device manager install

etc etc... have one page of notes of the stuff I attempted! lol

ahhhh it oks.... I'm buying Acronis right now lol
