View Full Version : How could we go about a fourm-wide announcment?

I know that occasional (Annually?) the WCG team sends out an announcement to all the members in an effort to get more people working towards the cause. Once the GPU2 client becomes easy to set up and stable, How could team 36362 go about sending out an announcement to help recruit people?

After all, This IS XS, And there must be at least 5,000 CUDA GPU's on these forums, God knows how many are overclocked. Imagine if just one out of every fifty of them joined the cause, Just 100. If they average 3k ppd, Were' talking about a %150 increase in team output, Putting us in the same 24-hour average as The Tech Report (#7).

I don't know, I'm all for WCG (Wooot!), But as I've learned that you can run FAH on your GPU with very minimal consequences to WCG, And get some massive points, I've gotten pretty excited and enthusiastic about this team! :D

Just a thought! I'm going back to bed.

You took the words right of my mouth there m8

Absolutely freaking good thought there, and I will second this reques! Going to pm Fugger about it to btw, no sence in not going directly to the man himself I recon!

Currently running it in XP might give people grief, and it's CPU cycle hungry, but running it in Vista, I've been running it ever since BenchmarkReviews leaked the first beta and aside from the occasional bluescreen I don't even notice it. (well, I do notice the hissing capacitors :p:)

Once they get the XP version ironed out such an announcement would be good as anyone could run it without worries, really.

I need new cards.. :shakes:
still running 2900pro, 8500gt, 8400gs...
all my hobby money went into 3 smp quads (oct, jan, feb)...
I'm a gpu2less hobo..

I've send a pm to FUGGER pointing him to this thread. There is a but however, mine not his, if I'm right the next released client will not only officially support dual gpu's but also no longer a beta. Guess the testing is going pretty well

In my humble opinion it would be wise to wait for this finalized client with full Stanford support, if not only for the reason that if we get allot off new people onboard with a for some still buggy client they might loose intrest it's just how it goes when you take into account large groups of people. From what I've heard from a reliable source we only have to wait a few days for this client.

It's just my advice atm, I'd rather wait but it's not my choiche to make it's your's in the end

@Mike, if I knew this I would have spend an extra €20 for an 8800gt instead of my 9600gt ( flat wallet syndrome ). To bad my gf doesn't play 3d games other then the sims 2, which runs on the x1600pro which is in there.

I agree with marvin here, perhaps waiting a little bit until things are ironed out a bit more would be beneficial so we don't get people frustrated with betas and bugs. (I'm thinking of the loss of barnacle here :()

BTW, I'm GPU2less too, still have my x1950xt :p:

LOL, I sold my 1950 a while back... it folded for about 7 months. but never the ppd gpu2 is turning.. omg, I think my 1950gt turned like 600ppd on gpu1.

I agree with this thread.

Also, are 6600gt's able to fold with modded inf's? It would at least output as much as an "ok" cpu I'd think. =p

Nope only g80 cores and newer support cuda :(

Still it's been calculated, even 1% off all cuda capable cards would make this project the fastest computing cluster in the world

Absolutely, I Agree we should wait for things to being working smoothly, No 177.35 drivers and hoops of fire to jump through. Otherwise many people will just be turned off to the idea.

I can wait for the new client, I'll be happy if it's out by the end of July, I just want to see it fully stable and easy for new folders to adopt.

No not the pics! But yeah I would very much enjoy him coming back we need a head figure here to steer all the enthousiasm in the right direction

UnG, Phytagoras or any of the old guard here :wtf:

Great idea guys.
When I did the WCG letter to the whole forum I did with an admin thats no longer with us.
A slow process of 50 at a time and took all night but did get excellent results.
Talk to Charles and maybe Vapor or one of the other admins can work with you on it. As said above, getting even a small precentage of people on this forum can make a huge difference.
Best of luck!

Jailed ?

I guess a PM "mailing list" of some sort where you put the names of the users in then send, or maybe have an "announcement" or sticky in all of the sub forums ,definitely a "big job".......

I already pm'd Charles about this, but I think everyone agreed we should wait till the final client. Also haven't heard back yet, but like I said that new client is just days away and it could make all the diffrence between a bunch of unhappy people who loose intrest rather quick or a new group of dedicated folders.

Dave, 1% of cuda enabeld gpu's added to the fah cluster will make it the fastest supercomputing cluster. I think we can do better though :D

Thanks for your enthousiasm, both for the wcg team and now for this. You're truelly a good man, one which gives this community greater appeal just beause he's a part of it.
