I remember that happened to me when i first got my iphone. The answer is basically you're SOL until they get a new update for itunes. At least thats what it was with my iphone.

Pretty much, I just reformatted my computer and put 32-bit back on until the update came out.

It turns out the iPod was DOA. Apple replaced it and all works now.

I need to replace iTunes somehow. I hate it.
