Hi,

I joined the xs team with my ps3 and my PC (user: laloidescactus)

Question: I do a WU in 8h with the ps3, on my PC (P4 2.6 yes I know, old) a WU takes 41 days! Is this normal?

Thanks

That seems a bit long. I run the client console on my wifes 2.4ghz opteron system, and it'll complete a WU in a few days at most.

We'd need to know all your specs, OS, and what client/protein you're running.

I have the same problem. I have a 3800+ amd (2.4ghz single core) that's taking 43 days to compete one WU on xp pro. If I were to upgrade the video (8400 - 8600 nvidia), would the cpu be able to keep up enough to help w/ folding on the GPUv2 client?

Sorry to steal the thread, I was curious. If I have to upgrade the cpu, not only the GPU, i'd get a low end intel instead (unless a 2.6 ghz athlon X2 would be good enough).

Sorry to steal the thread

ha! OT and threadjacking are a grand tradition around here. One of the benefits of a low traffic, friendly subgroup. 4 more thread steals and we'll teach you the secret handshake :)

Left it running last night and the WU dropped to 1 day.

I guess I just needed to be patient :P

Huh I still haven't gotten to learn it, I need to be more intrusive I suppose :D

I get only 3%cpu utilization on one off my cores ( q6600 ) with a 9600gt and vistax64, the newer clients also are dropping the cpu usage allot. If you have an option to run vista x64 I would advice it anyway since it really seems to handle the polling allot easier, but even with xp 32 you could feed a card like mine or lower I would assume. If you are able to find a cheap s939 dual core I'm quite sure the gpu client can run alongside a cpu client even.

Yeah they drop after time, you're using fahmon to monitor I think? You can change how it calculates the eta under options, just going through the options always gives a good idea of the program. Anyway, what project are you running and how did you configure your client? ( did you enable advmethods or bigwu's for one? )

Are you going to make your preferred deadline, or atleast the final one?

Mavin The Martian,

My GPU client is on vista x64. I have another copy of vista, but it runs SUPER slow on an 3800+. I could take 4 gigs out of my quad and drop it in my xp machine (3800+), but I'd still be CPU bound in terms of WU output. I posted a question about running both the normal CPU F@H while runing the GPU client, but no one responded or knows how to run both at once on Vista.

In terms of the the AMD machine, I could drop in a dual core 2.7ghz for about 77 bucks from the egg. For 80, I could just get an 8600 gt w/ 512 ram. That would rank out WUs faster than the cpu.

Someone really needs to get on to running the cpu & gpu client simultaneously. My output would increase substantially.

Almost everyone of us is runnig both cpu and gpu clients guess I missed your question?

q6600@3g runnig one smp client and a gpu2 client on my 9600gt. If I quit the gpu2, my frametimes for the smp improve only 3% to 5% percent which is consitent with my 3% cpu usage taken by the gpu2 client poling, and vice verse. If you use the latest beta, which each revision they have lowerd cpu usage, you can run the gpu2 client on that 3800 with a cpu client on top ( though it will probably take up to 30% off your cpu to feed the gpu. Also my 9600gt has less shaders needing to be polled and fed, so cpu usage with faster cards will offcourse be higher.

Edit: Also, the cpu client is scientifly less impaired then the gpu client so you shouldn't just abandon it without trying  Ow and gpu2 ppd will drop with a cpu client, but cpu ppd and gpu2 ppd together should add up higher so it's a win win situation :wtf:

In Fahmon, go under preferences>monitoring and change "calculate PPD based on last 3 frames". The dual instances on the family X2@2.4 and the single instance on my E4500@3.0 take about a day to complete.
