Radeon HD4870 CrossFire. somebody send me a fanfix BIOS before i burn my house down!

all of these screenshots are resized from their original 1680x1050 to save my photobucket bandwidth and make them easier to see. the video cards are running at stock speed of 750/3600. i haven't overclocked anything yet.

Crysis - custom Very High config - no AA

*EDIT*
i just realized Ambient Occlusion (r_ssao) was turned off for these screenshots. i wasn't trying to cheat. that is why the grass looks kind of simple and that is why my frames are so high. the screenshot showing 71 fps is actually 48 fps when i have ssao turned on. i don't think it has any affect on scenes that don't have grass or lots of shadowed areas. the first screenshot and the tank area screenshots (two of them) are higher than they should be. i'll edit them in a bit.

Come to think of it, COD4's indoor graphics aren't all that great--very reminiscent of F.E.A.R. (the office building), which was what, 2005? Crysis looks good, as it should with all that graphics muscle behind it. What kind of FPS do you get at the *very* end boss battle? Because that would knock my 8800GT down to like 9FPS at 1280x1024, High, no AA.

i think CoD4 is one of those games that looks really good while you're moving around and the screenshots just don't do it justice. and the multiplayer is awesome. it's been my favorite game since it came out.

the final scene in Crysis had me around 40-50 fps depending on where i was looking. the final Crysis screenshot i posted is from the boss scene with two explosions happening in front of me, so that's probably about as low as it goes. i didn't actually play the game as i was just testing the new cards. i just loaded a few different maps and snapped off some quick screenshots. i'll probably play through it again now that i can play it "the way it's meant to be played" :p:

Can't wait for my HD4870 1GB to play Crysis again!

Finishing Oblivion is also my target for this summer :p: (texture modded of course).

What about gameplay? Did you notice microstuttering?

Nice fps results but that doesn't really translate in smooth gameplay, if you could video ;)

i'll make a video, but i hate to become a YouTube cliche. honestly, those stupid Maxishine Crysis videos drive me up a wall and i promised myself i'd never be like that.

as far as microstuttering goes, my last three computers had CrossFire in them (X1900, 3870, and now 4870 CF) and i still don't know what microstuttering is. if it means the game actually stutters a little the framerate is choppy, i've honestly only noticed that in games that weren't supported by CF anyway. the simple solution is to turn CrossFire off and everything works the way it's supposed to.

if microstuttering means you can kind of see the screen refresh as it happens, the only game i notice that in is Call of Duty 4 and that is supposedly caused by my motherboard. i got in contact with some of the ATI guys and explained what was happening and they said they reproduced the problem and made a fix that would be released with the 8.7 driver next month. so i'm not sweating that. all my other games run perfectly though. Crysis is smooth.
