View Full Version : I can't decide! 2x4850 or 1x4870?

I really can't decide between 2 4850s or 1 4870 and picking up another one near Christmas. I'm going to be playing Warhammer Online in the fall and a bunch of RTS and a few FPS. I'll be on a E8400, 4GB RAM and a 750W PSU using Vista 64bit. There are too many benchmarks to get accurate results. It seems like every benchmark has different results! Could you guys give me some reasons as to buy either card?
If I'm convinced to get the 4850s there is a store near by selling sapphires for $160 CAN so I need to run over to the store today since it's a one day only sale. If I'm convinced to get the 4870, well then I'll be waiting a few more weeks regardless and probably will pick up the rest of my components.
Thanks :D
CF4850 is faster than a single 4870 and only marginally costs more but consumes almost the same power when idling and uses single-slot cards. $160 is a great price, go and buy two and you'll be a happy camper for the rest of this year. :)
I used to buy high-end cards but this one is just sucha good card I couldn't resist - and I consider buying a second one as well next week...

buy the 4870 and your love it, then save your money and in a month get another and you
won't be trying to sell 2 - 4850 in a few weeks.... just my prediction.

early drivers and crossfire benchmarks show 4850 Xfire is sufficiently close to 4870xfire, both of which will trump gtx280/260. As far as pricing is concerned, 4870xfire does not provide enough of a performance difference to justify 2x the cost.

I never agree with these price performance arguments, then fall short for an extreme gamer/builder/moder.
I want the best i can get, plus we can play tag with the articles but from what i have read the 4870 rocks the 4850
both stand alone and in CF
why get rib eye when you can have filet.
so it's a no brainer to me.....

so you can eat again soon, rather than remembering how good that expensive meal tastes while watching everyone else eat again.
