Why wouldn't he be able to run CF? All he or anyone needs is multiple HD4870's and it will work fine.

for 3Dmark06 tweak, you need to change the setting of CCC and also the LOD

i hope i have 2 cards so i can do CF.. now i don't even have 1 lol

no vmod, it just died, 1200 x4 = 4800. maybe i really overclock too high.. becareful on those GDDR5

Hey Guys,

My good friend will get a pair of cards on Tuesday. So don't feel too bad. For all you curious guys out there that have a burning sensation to push your HD 4870 cards just a little faster, here is a custom bios from my engineering team.

COPY THIS URL TO WEB BROWSER

http://www.letbuyonline.com/HD4870512MBOC765-915MhzBootableCD.iso

to download bootable ISO file…

1) Burn the ISO "HD4870512MBOC765-915MhzBootableCD.iso” with your favorite burner software

2) Restart your PC and make sure the “boot sequence” for the bios setting set correctly in order for CD-Rom to boot

3) After booted to MS-DOS mode at command prompt change directory to your CD-Rom Letter Drive “cd d:”

4) Type flash

1) Wait for a confirmation message then restart your PC but don’t forget to send us an e-mail for the result. Thanks!

Back on topic:

I'm getting HD4870 but I'm waiting for 1GB version this round :)
Looking at 4850 volt-mod results it looks like >1GHz core on 4870 with Air/Water should be easy and hopefully 1.2-1.4GHz on something colder in proper hands :D.

@guess2098: When you're getting next cards?? Can't wait to see some more action!!

Press Release Diamond Releases Radeon HD 4870 XOC Unlocked Black Edition
Diamond Multimedia (www.diamondmm.com), a leading manufacturer of PC graphics cards, sound cards and communications products, launched today along with boutique system builder Smoothcreations, and Water cooling mavens, Danger Den the ATI Radeon™ HD 4870 XOC Black Edition graphics card. This card offers exquisite gaming capabilities combined with state of the art efficiency.

The HD 4870 is a smoking gun dual slot card, PCIE 2.0, with 512MB of DDR5 memory and a clock speed of 800 MHz. The memory speed is 1100 MHz and is designed with 800 stream processors. The HD 4870 provides plug-and-play ATI CrossFireX™ upgradeability with up to quad-GPU support. Continuing with ATI’s Power Play and 55nm processing technology, this card is the fastest and efficient. “The Diamond Radeon HD 4870 XOC Black Edition was clocked to kick some ass”. We didn’t just want a fast card out in the market, we wanted the fastest card that could kick the living daylights and bust some performance records, say Mario Gastelum, Director of Product Development & Engineering. “we wanted a card that kicked the competitions teeth into the curb”, and that’s exactly what our engineers accomplished”. “The firmware was custom designed to enable end users to go beyond the normal over clocked speeds and allow them to push their cards for higher performance via the catalyst control center.” The GPU’s custom firmware has been unlocked to push cards to GPU settings of up to 950 MHz and Memory of up 1200 MHz.

Diamond Teamed up with Premier Boutique system builder, SmoothCreations, to offer these powerful graphics cards to Smoothcreations legendary beauty and performance pc system platforms. “We wanted to complement beauty, artisan craftsmanship, and performance power to a gaming system, and Diamond helped us accomplish that”, says Jim Saling, CEO of SmoothCreations. In collaboration with Danger Den, Smoothcreations will be offering a water cooled edition as well.

All Diamond video cards carry the Diamond guarantee of quality assurance. Unlike many cards that are simply first to market, Diamond carefully tests and retests every new model for its ratio of performance to reliability. Diamond is legendary in the PC video card business for its less than 1 percent return rate. Diamond cards use superior connectors, cables and components, as well as undergo more thorough testing for heat susceptibility and durability.

Availability
Diamond Multimedia’s ATI Radeon HD 4870 XOC Black Edition will be available for purchase starting July 01, 2008 and will be available Exclusively at Premier Boutique System Builder Smoothcreations.

what i mean is atitool LOD does nothing for 3dmark 06 for ati cards... if you use an nvidia card and use rivatuner and mess with LOD, you actually notice it change the LOD(3dm06).

the tweaktown review is erroneous. look at the crysis numbers. this was discussed a while back, i know what you're talking about. ask hardwarecanucks review editor SKYMTL.

This in itself is very hard to do. Let me explain.

Due to the different natures of the P45 and boards with X38 / X48 chipsets it is almost impossible to have a completely even playing field. Heck even when testing boards WITH THE SAME CHIPSET there will be differences in gaming performance. I will draw your attention to a few articles:

Techreport's X48 Showdown (See ET: EQ benches) (http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/14598/7)

Bit Tech's Multi GPU benches with the Gigabyte P45 DQ6 (http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2008/06/18/gigabyte-ga-ep45-dq6/12)

OC3D's P45 Showdown (http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews.php?/cpu_mainboard/p45_showdown_-_asus_p5q_deluxe_vs_msi_p45_diamond/12)

Not only are there performance differences between X48 and X38 (basically the same chipset) when equipped with similar hardware but there are even VERY large differences between P45 boards when it comes to performance. We aren't talking about 1-2%, more like 10-20% difference in some cases.

So, the question begs to be asked: in a Crossfire vs Crossfire review between the X38 / X48 and the P45, how do we know that the performance (or lack thereof) of the motherboard itself and NOT the PCI-E bandwidth is being brought to the forefront? The simple answer is that there is really no way to know unless there are MASSIVE differences in performance.

Writing a review of Crossfire performance between two motherboards with different chipsets, getting results that are within 5-10% difference between the two products and then saying that there is a bottleneck is a stretch at best. That is why I look at some preformance results and take them with a grain of salt.

Will a P45 bottleneck a pair of HD4870 cards? Heck no.

ok, i understand.
But what about the point loss in 3D 03 and 06.
Losing almost 1K in 06 and over 8K in 03 is substantial loss m8. ;)

So after just about 3 weeks getting Q6600, I need to upgrade to Q9450 and OCing it to 3.6GHz to get a proper power to feed those new ATI cards?
Oh it really sucks
