According to this page it works on a 3870 by using this fifth hole on that retention guide. If it works on a 3870 it should work on a 4870. Make sure you also have heatsinks for the ram as well.
I'll probably be getting this for mine. Thermalright says they're compatible with 4870.

there exists the tools to adapt the original hsf speeds, so you might be better off holding out for a few weeks for a dedicated 4870 hsf....

I like first that cooler. $50 each kinda steep.
Hope to see a single slot 4870.
I'll be waiting for 1gb versions of 4870.

the best price/performance route will just be to flash your BIOS like most of us did with our 3870's. once a fanfix BIOS is released the stock cooler will work a lot better. i heard Sapphire already has one. i just haven't seen it yet.
Forget V2, im sure it's compatible with 48 since they share the same mounting holes. But V2 doesnt perform well, it needs high rpm fan. At last november i did a local review comparing V2, S1, X1, VF900 for 8800GT. V2 is the lowest even after i put 2A 9 cm Delta fan

i wish Zalman could make a beefed up version of the vf700. a lot of us CrossFire users don't have enough space to put those huge heatsinks in. i have about one centimeter between my video cards with the reference coolers on.

Is that T-Rad available anywhere yet? I might get that instead of V2.

It will be releleased in August :(
I'm getting an Accelero S1 rev. 2 until then ;)
