I dont know if anyone has posted a Q9650.

I got the chip today on loan.

Right i just dropped it in for a DOA test.

I'll do the torture test this weekend.

its the Q9650

Thats what the person who gave me chip to me said. :T

But its a yorkie with a 9x multi, thats suposed to be right below the QX processor.

Are the older chips the better ones?

Thanks for posting your results, love to see what it can do!

this i would love to know.

But i will find out this weekend.

EDIT:

I threw it on this bench.

I think the 780i will hold me back. I might need to bring my spare dfi x38 out of its box. I dont have much faith in the 780i.

But right now she's holding 3.6ghz @ 1.2Vcore. I'll go for a min 4.0ghz windows boot test, and then take a snap shot.

But this is all inital tinkering. I'll do the whole synthetic test this weekend on stock and 4.0ghz.

Heres hoping she scores near my QX.

Heres some more playing with. She's on OCCT now at this setting:

Wow, Is it stable at 4 Ghz and 1.328v. If so I am saying screw the QX9650 and go with this for $500 less. I seems like the QX 9650 really hits a wall at about 4 Ghz unless on sub-zero cooling.

What are your temps like?

nah, you just got a bad chip :P

I dont know whose better tho. Still more testing is needed. :T

Anyhow update:

she failed occt. The 780i has a bad vdroop. im looking at 1.4V bios, and its loading at 1.32Vcore.
i think i'll do a pencil mod this weekend and see if i can mirror my QX clock per voltage. :T

Granted there will be some who get chips that OC better. I have seen a Q6600 stable at 4Ghz and 1.4 volts.

However it seems on average, most people are able to push the QX yorkies to about 4 Ghz.

Care to sell me that QX, since you now got the extra special? I guess my SS unit would love it :D

Just be careful with that many volts on a 45nm chip.

Just be careful with that many volts on a 45nm chip.

Its degrading and has been, I just had to reduce it to 4Ghz to be stable a minute ago. I am about ready to set it on 2v and be done with it...

I dont have a QX9650. I am thinking about getting one but I am now thinking about just getting a Q9650.

I have a Q6600 GO which was a crappy overclocker with a 1.325 VID. It is at 3.8 Ghz with 1.55V (1.42 in CPU-Z).

ah i thought that screenie of the qx9650 doing 4.2ghz @ 1.39 was yours... bummer, looks like a nice one :)

you can see the vid of the ES q9650 though, right?

Vid on realtemp reports it as a crappy vid.

1.250V :P

Funny cuz my Q6600 ES has a vid of 1.275

My QX has a vid of 1.025 :X

Anyhow this weekend, i'll edit the first post and add all the synthetics.

im gonna bench this chip at
3.0 (stock)
3.6
4.0

If this chip can get to 4.0 Ghz stable on a 45nm Yorkie for $550 it might be the greatest CPU (bang for the buck) since the Q6600 G0

:ROTF:

There's no bang for buck @ $550.

Maybe if you're regularly spending 1K on a CPU ;)

Nice results though aigomorla...err NaeKuh.

I would say it is for sure better than $1100 for a QX9650. Remember that that Q6600 was about $550-$600 when it first came out.

ima have to sig this.

guys im benching her @ stock right now. Be back with results.

Also i hope 1 hour OCCT is enough. I really dont have time to do 7h+ primes at those three clocks. And im taking ambients at sink intake with ifx using a yate low speed fan.

Just finished the first stress test:

Stock settings: Ambients taken at 28.7C
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p73/aigomorla/Capture-Stock.jpg

got impatient, waited for temp max to hit.

Anyhow going to 3dmark.
