I just ordered the 1356 from newegg this morning. They aren't listed atm, but you can get to the page through like pricegrabber or something. It should be in by next tuesday or wednesday along with some new memory for the system for some real fun.

I really want to know how they do as well. As a proud owner of an Opteron 185 I have faith in how AMD bins their silicon. The Optys should clock well. I just wish they had a 2.6Ghz or unlocked Opty for us to play with.

If they released an unlocked opty I think there's no single reason left to buy desktop CPU's:ROTF:.

I think the main drop for tdp is a better quality imc. The difference between running 533 unganged and 1066 unganged is about 4C more at load with my TRUE. I just hope the bins aren't like they were with the opty 165's because the 165's tended to overclock more than the other one's in that series that I remember. The 2.4 and 2.5ghz variants are 105W TDP but right now they are only available as socket F. I love being the guinea pig.
Hooray for me buying my first ever opty :rocker:
Edit: And of course I ordered it this morning, did rush order, and only the memory has shipped. The cpu is still at step 3...

The price difference between the lowest and the highest is xstrem.
I've also noticed that the one you've ordered said: No "virtual machine support"
(the other 2 have it) could be a typo, who knows.
I've bought 2 Optys over the years (165 and 1210) and very happy with both
of them.:) (both in the cpuZ sig;)
Hope they send you one quickly or give you the refund :)

There is no lower TDP, Opterons is measured in ACP. (Just to crash the party :p:)
Oldguy932
06-29-2008, 07:53 AM
I thought they were all ACP measured now, not just opterons.
Edit: It has been shipped, guess it just took them a while to find where they put it.
According to the page on newegg it does have virtualization support.

Nope.Phenoms are max TDP,Opterons are ACP.But i would guess that even with ACP,Opterons would hardly hit that value since these are the best K10 batches(perf./watt wise).
Also, afaik AMD is not disabling Virtualization support in any of its K8/K10 chips, especially in K10.
K10 Opteron's big feature is a new Virtualization hardware.

Yea they've changed the "no" to "yes"
75w tdp makes sense for the given freq.

I wonder if the nb is going to have the same wall it did with other chips. Or maybe it will go according to my hypothesis of how the first phenoms had nb's that clocked as well as newcastles/clawhammer, then this could be like venice/san diego or we might be waiting for 45nm to get that.
Edit: So with everything that I complained about with shipping, it will actually be in tomorrow. It got shipped from Pennsylania, and Ohio is right there. Too bad the memory isn't coming in till like wednesday even though it shipped out on friday.

So it's newer than all of our Phenom B3's. Well, I'm going to put it to use in about an hour or so, I'm covered in mud from my daily run and I don't think mother nature and computers mix except in 3DMark03.

Vista 32bit. Don't worry about it though, its in RMA now . 1102 bios on my board sets 1-3-3-3-1T timings for auto, so I tried flashing the bios to an earlier one to fix the problem. 0801 for some reason doesn't even have preliminary support for it, so I used my 9500 to flash back and it turns out my Opty died. I'm starting to hate that system, its very frustrating. I'm not even going to run it until I hear from newegg.

Look man, it's interesting what you posted and Im very thankfully for that. However Sparky is trying to say there's no need to tell you prefer Intel, it adds nothing to all of it.
Lately in the news sections we had some retarded people bashing off AMD and the people who prefer AMD. Things got quite hot now and then. So as soon as someone says things like that we indeed get quite pissy.
Just leave that stuff behind. We're not waiting on a 'Hail AMD' and 'AMD will dominate the world' things either, just keep that stuff for your self. Intel is doing pretty awesome, everyone knows. But there's no need to point that out, especially not in the hole of the lion:p:
You've your reasons to chose Intel, we've our reasons to chose for AMD. Just leave it by that and everything's fine;)

Sorry I didn't mean to come across as rude, but we've had people come into the AMD section before just to say (as if we didn't already know) that intel is faster and aiming to start trouble. So after that happening several times, I've gotten rather short-tempered with such people. I may have taken your post wrong, and I apologize for that, but I saw it as another one of "those posts" if you get my drift.

Well as I said I did flash back to 1102 but it still didn't work. It has already been 2 day shipped to newegg to get it replaced. In the few minutes I had it running I noticed that cpu-z 1.44 reads it as Phenom 5650 and CBI reads it as Phenom X4 56 and that it has a TDP of 108W which I know is completely off. I think it might have just been that way with the memory because it was a single stick but I still don't like that I couldn't set it to 5-5-5-15 so I could actually do stuff with it. Those are also ridiculously low temps for the speeds, but unless someone else buys one we won't know anything till I get mine back fixed or a new one.

Chip comes in today even though my dashboard on the egg still says step 3 for shipping it, got an email with my tracking number and it said it was out for delivery so I'll have it by like 2pm eastern. I promise I'll try not to kill it this time.

Ok, I know I didn't fry this one. I put it in the same way I put all the other one's in so I know I was grounded. I have the 1102 bios running. Only difference this time through is having two sticks of ram. Wait I think its trying to set the mem to 1066mhz and the cpu doesn't support it... crap.
Edit: Nevermind, it just doesn't want to work for me this time. Now I have to wait for a new bios...
Edit 2: YAY!!! It works now. I used the 9500 to set the memory divider to 800mhz and that seemed to do it. Time to start working.

Oldguy932,could it be that the one you did RMA also suffered from too high mem. divider set in bios(ie. it wasn't faulty at all ,just couldn't boot with that setting)?
Anyhow, good to see you back in business with that chip.

24C Idle at stock with 1.25v/1.25v set, 33C Load.
Overclocking is a pain, this one won't even boot at 250htt.
CPU-Z 1.46 doesn't even show the right name at the top, I'll show it in a screen.
Edit: 23C-24C seems to be the temp of my room right now so idle won't be colder than that. Voltage dropped to 1.15/1.15 drops load temp to 30C.

I think I want to see good HTT clocks on any motherboard before I get a non-Black Edition CPU, be it Phenom or Opteron. Although Im very curious for your results!
Maybe try to lower your HT link to 5 or so, like it ran on AM2. Somewhere at TPU they got higher HTT clocks with a way lower HT link (and low as 5x multi).
Oldguy932
07-10-2008, 09:51 AM
The other one would boot at 250htt, just I killed it... This one doesn't boot above 245, and looks like it wants lots of volts for that anyway. Unless someone is feeling really nice and wants to get me a second one then it'll probably sit around till I get a new mobo.
What do you mean by good htt clocking? My 9600 has boot at htt all the way up to 300.
