I've been scouring the arpawebs for weeks now, trying to find water cooling solutions for the eVGA 780i board. Why does it seem like this board has been skipped, with support for the 790i chipset already out? Are there any plans for manufacturers (ie. DD) to come out with a complete solution for it? I've heard DD is coming out with a SB cooler "soon". What should I install once I have the NB/SB blocks installed to cool the voltage regulators, etc?

Here's my unhappy thermal NB/SB with 3-Way SLI:

There is no aftermarket air solution tho thanks to that STUPID UGLY GAY PCI-E 2.0 chip.

Then you need a SB sink:

http://www.jab-tech.com/xcart/product_images/detailed/d_3946.jpg

And to finish it off you need these last 2:

First is the this guy:

This one goes on the left mosfet near your rear exhaust fan.

This one goes on the top mosfets. You need to stick them individually:

RRR are those Volt mods on those cards i see?

My 780i isnt worth watercooling. Its seriously the 3rd :banana::banana::banana:tiest board i owned. First being the 680i-AR, then the IP35 series, and then the this crap board.

I ditched the water when i swaped boards.

Persephone > Freya!! :P

Only in brains tho. :\

Why don't you like the 780i?

It's not that bad...

Why don't you like the 780i?

It's not that bad...

Like all Nvidia boards, if it works for you and you dont experience weird unexplainable problems, then nothing (Aside from huge FSB holes and lower max stable FSB)

But its amazing how low their QC is and the amount of boards that they crank out that Never would of passed Intel or any others QC threshold.

Add that with the fact that they keep labeling their boards as high performance enthusiast boards yet continue to try to make a few cents more per board by not including solid state caps and load line calibration and you get why most people who own an Nvidia reference board are left with a bad taste in their mouth.

I own a EVGA 790i personally, but I wont be getting another Nvidia board (Hahahaha not like we could anyways after Intel revoked their Chipset/Board production license )

Just for laughs, read this Memory compatibility list that Nvidia produced for the 790i
http://www.evga.com/support/mbmem/

Still not updated, and the board is incompatible with a large amount of 2x2gb modules, but then again, they don't have Any 2x2gb modules on their extensive list, its like they were given $2,000 to spend on a memory testing budget, bought some Corsair and Kingston, and had $50 left over to spend on the rest.

wait til your on your 5th one like i am.

i went though 4 680i boards.

1 780i on stepup. I figured hell, its either gona sit in the box, or i just step up.

There is no way i am gonna get suckered in stepping up again.

RRR if you go though a X38 or X48 board, all you have left is bad taste from nvidia.

I own both platforms:

@NaeKuh...

How do you like the ATI cards vs Nvidia cards?

Can you tell a difference in gaming between the two?

Main reason I bought 780i, was for the Nvidia SLI cards...

Xfire works on multi monitors.

Need i say more?

Theres a reason why my main machine is xfire + intel chipset.

Freya, the sli rig is my htpc. All she does right now is play movies and keeps me entertained with emulators. :P

Also incase you didnt hear, neha Axe'd out NForce. Intel spat on nvidia when they asked for QPI.
So theres a chance you wont be able to take your sli cards on the new intel platform when it comes out.

oh RRR the real reason why im pissed @ nvidia tho is:
Cuz of the 680i i lost 2 pairs of ram. Stupid voltage problem.
Also Nvidia didnt tell anyone they switched the original sb chipset to a lower model.
Even tho the lower model is better they still should of told people.

I dont blame eVGA at all. If anything they saved nVidia for me, cuz no company so far beats eVGA in handling RMA's.
Trust me, any 680i owner knows this very well.

RRR... In your setup, will 1/2" ID tubing fit through the top two video card blocks to the southbridge? I'd like to water cool everything, no fans! Also, how did you get the mosfet water blocks to fit a 780i board? Which models are they?

Thanks,

The mosfet blocks he has are EK's.

His entire setup minus the NB block is EK.

IF you get EK, make sure you look for a revision. The 680i blocks WILL NOT FIT on the 780i. Cuz nvidia got lazy and soldered on a mosfet funky, the 680i mosfet blocks WILL NOT FIT.

Lucky for you Eddie already made the revision.

Also, what about the SB? Will the 1/2" ID tubing definitely fit through the two top GPU blocks?

I'm with you. I've been pounding mine non stop 24/7 since the day it came out. Not a problem and one of the easiest OC'ing boards I've owned. I had a QX9650 OC's @ 4.150 on it for near 5 months gaming/SLI/crunching, and just swaped it out with a Q6600 G0 @ 3.6 and it's smooth as silk.

What can I tell you, certain people can't handle certain boards:D

You can get the EK 680i Mosfet parts 1 & 2 to fit the 780i board with a little modding...

The Mosfet part 1 fits perfectly, but the part 2 requires modding to fit. (will be performing this mod tomorrow at a co-workers house, he has a drill press)

To answer your question about 1/2" tubing going to the SB... (1/2" x 3/4" also)

I have 8800GTS (G92) ViperFang VI water blocks with Vcore Heatsinks. They required a little creativite thinking...(ie. ghetto mod)

I don't want fans on my board either...

Hello,

I'd like to put an EK-SB6 waterblocks on my XFX 780i southbridge... so, reading the EK compatibility list the wb is reported as compatible.

Now, my question is... there may be problems to plug the tube on the ek connectors since my vga (xfx 8800gts 512) has the reference 2 slot stock cooler?

Hope that my question is clear!

Thanks in advance!!
