GPU2 6.12 beta 8
http://www.stanford.edu/~beberg/Folding@home-GPU-systray-612b8.msi
Changes:

6.12 Beta 7...

* Fixed nVidia FX/NVS detection

6.12 Beta 8...

* Support cpu affinity by default, this is related to an nVidia problem and awaits core-side changes.
* Fix saving of proxy settings.
* Add additional parameters field in advanced preferences - no more shortcut editing!!!
* UNSTABLE_MACHINE count reset after a correctly finished WU, for long-running systems

* Open configuration dialog box when invalid settings detected
* Changes to advanced configuration panel

This will NOT fix problems related to cores of course, like the viewer problems, nVidia desktop lag/lockups, etc.

the one on the main dl page is listed as beta 6...

UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS:
After wu's are done ,-control panel-uninstall fah-then install the new version
It's smart enough to keep the logs and config file:)

Remind me... can I just install this AFTER all my current WU's have finished? Or can I stop and then install over and carry on?

opinions differ.. I usually just reboot to kill all instances of fah and upgrade over top of the existing folder with smp... and it keeps the wu in tact on restart... but I dunno with gpu2, like it really matters though if it trashes the wu, they are little bitty ones anyway..

I can confirm this works with a HD 4850, but clock for clock the PPD is not better than a HD 38xx card. Either its really inneficient on a HD 4850 or it isnt anywhere close to using all 800 shaders.

Well I've got a few 497pointers been worked on. So ya it does matter. Also a few WU completed stored in cache.

Then I come here and complain about ppd

Thanks for the links Mike

I've gotten several 479pt Project 5003 WUs, crashing one of those after 4 hours would not be good.

I will have to install this tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up!

4 hours really(stock clocks or something?)? I do them in just over 2 hours(88GTS). I was thinking about picking up a 88GT too.:(

his must be stock clock, heres my benchmark of 5003

ps: benchmark recorded while watching a movie (not sure if the gfx card is used for that or not)

mine take about 3 hours to do at 2800-3000 iter/s and fahmon reports around 4800ppd overclocked to 684/1728/1152

fine with me just need to get either a 8800gt, 8800gts 512, or 9800gtx, but i wanna see what a fully utilized 4870 can do.

What's the Mhz for the cpu (type?)
What was the movie? I've heard that if it's an action then you get more ppd's?:hump:
Dvd/bd/mpeg2..etc..... or something compressed like mp4/lubetube/flv/avi..etc.... ?

:comp10:
Even if it's just 1 hour it's still a waist isn't it ?

And to answer your question (is the gfx used when watching a movie) I'd take a wild guess and say that:
it would depend on whether or not you're watching the movie on the PC where the gfx is.:toast:

added Socket's upgrade process to the OP... :comp10:
makes sense, since gpu2 stores it's work and config in the user profile instead of the install folder, unlike smp...

btw: nice ppd Aleki.... :wtf:

Does anyone have anything tangible to say about this beta? Like a hike in PPD?

the linked fah threads in the OP have some posts in them now with the thread 14hrs old, but most of it is install/uninstall issues... might want to follow those... I wasn't aware this upgrade had anything to do with ppd... thought it was other minor beta fixes..

I'm not gpu2 folding right now, just 7 smp's... but if it were me, I'd treat this like any other beta rollout... test it on one machine, and let the others fold like they are if they're doing fine...

i know, it sounds stupid. but IIRC, the gfx cards of late are supposed to relieve work from the cpu when it comes to movie encoding/decoding/playing
to answer your question, it was pirates of the caribbean - at worlds ends. 8gb matroska file :)

Well, I can't watch TV or Play movies with it. It kinda feels good to know that the GFX is been ridden bareback to such an extent that it can't show 24FPS. lol

And has anyone looked at the trends of the past couple of weeks. From a 150KPPD to 200KPPD. Thats like a 33% increase!

I'm assuming since watching TV takes more decoding power than just watching an AVI? I can watch an avi, and I take a small hit to the F@H GPUv2, but nothing major

I really like the "new options":yepp:

I bet nobody even looked in there
be honest

**********************
Matroska is a tricky one the decoding is done (I think) in software,so the
card is not really involved. DVD on the other hand is decoded by the "UVD" or purevideo from MPEG2 so the card is "used" if I understand correctly. For TV your "add on" (pci/usb) card would do most of the work.

Anyone tried to determine if this one obeys the "-gpu N" flag?

I just found out yesterday I can fold on this 9600gt now

Had some issues with 177.35 not allowing to oc on my card with rivatuner and running on very low clocks ( 500 core  ) but now it's finally running. Had to install the int driver package not the one linked in some thread I found and then everything was fine and dandy. I benched yesterday at 800/2000/950 for a quick test but for now folding at 750/1900/900 and on project 5004 I'm getting just short on 4K. It's not reading the smp correct for some reason, stays stuck at the percentage when I start fahmon, reloading does nothing but the client already is some steps ahead. Frametime of just one 15m for project 2665 doesn't look like the gpu client is taking much from the smp at all. Taskman also shows the four smp threads as 25%/25%/23% Fahcore_11 3%. What's the most effective for folding, shader clocks or core clocks? ( or ram though I don't think so..??)

Edit: tinkering with fahmon shows me the smp ppd is just short of 2K, so a nice 5.5K to 6K a day
