You do not NEED to get new ram.

But you might WANT to get new ram... because the Phenom does benefit from faster ram. And it will overclock better.

AND new ram is cheaper now. You can get 2x2Gb 1066 for fairly cheap now.

If you put a Phenom in that board it's noting going to clock like that 6400 x2
I'd keep the 6400 x2 & wait till there are 45nm black editions.
I'm one person of two or three that got a BE that sucks at clocking. -_-

hmmm, thanks for the responses guys a 4870X2 is in the pipeline so I want to get a quadcore to maybe open up this dual bottleneck.......when is 45nm going to be released??

My schedule of upgrading is going to go like this or at least was...

9850BE......this week
4870X2.......2-3 weeks or whenever is release
2x2gb1066 ram.......4-5 weeks
new mobo with sb750........whenever its released and I see reviews..

so what do you think??

That sounds good to me.

Or you could wait on the 9850 and get it last... It all depends on how much the new MB really DOES speed things up. (But I know that doing the Quad last would be tough. You want to see the pretty 4x CPU load bars...

Personally: I'm looking at maybe getting 2x4850 if the price for the 4870 is REALLY high. (Depending on the benchmarks. If a single 4870 is as fast as 2x4850 AND it only costs $300.00... then I'll do that. But on the OTHER hand... won't a single 4870 only have the 800 universal stream processors? (Where with 4850 you would have 1600 of them.)
