55nm GTX 280 anytime soon?

I'm planning ahead for a early september build and was just wondering whether we are likely to see a 55nm GTX 280 by then.

It sounds like a smart move as it would allow for faster clocks to bump that 1TFlop mark while also lowering manufacturing costs. If we look at the 9800 GTX and 9800 GTX+ you'll see that the drop to 55nm was done only 3 months after the 65nm release...

Any thoughts?

definitely no earlier than September, but Nvidia will probably get them out the door as soon as they can due to the pressure from ATI's new cards. September sounds like a good guess to me.

Exactly what he said... ;) NVIDIA needs any breathing room they can get, and a 55nm GT200 might let them clock the GTX 260 high enough to beat the 4870. Not to mention allow them to price their GTX 260 lower to compete better...

Oh man I'd love to see them bring one out in early september :) I'm aiming for a 1900x1200 monitor which means so far that I'd get a great benefit from the 1GB of memory on the GTX 280 though I'm waiting to see how 4870x2's do at that resolution.

its likely they will do something like when moving the 260/280 to 55 nm, increase the clocks, lower the price, and give them new names, like 265/285, or something like that.
my guess would be around august or sepetember, since that tends to be a big time for hardware.
probably right around the time they come up with some sort of 260 GX2 or something like it.

Sep-Oct to be realistic. And I wouldn't be surprised if they tried a 260 GX2 if the R700 beats the 280.

But the 55nm GT200 won't have DX 10.1 which is becoming a bigger deal after today.
