I ordered a Sapphire HD4850 (will arrive tomorrow) and today a friend said that it is optimized for DirectX 10 and that, thus, it would be a waste of money on the XP, compared with the 3870, which I have.
Well, I'm very happy with the XP SP3 and have no plan to upgrade to the Vista yet. I've looked at several benchmarks for the 4850 and all of them were run on the Vista!
So, is my friend correct?

lol, GG to your friend. All new DX10 compatible cards will inevitably perform better in native DX9 games or games where DX9 is forced. Remember the 8800GTX? It was stellar in DX9, and no one knew its DX10 performance at the outset, but we all knew the scores would be lower under the new API.
