yes that would be modding it, but u should just take it off, they cove replacing the HS also (not modding it) so if u bought a new cover then u could but paint would insulate the card, or if u run with no cover the card runs a little cooler

I once messed up a Vmod on a 7800gt (super high end way back when) and sent EVGA the card with the heatsynk off, with a HUGE burn mark on the card and a capacitor in a little zip-lock bag.
They express-shipped me a new 7800gt that same week :D.
From then on, whenever I went Nvidia, I went EVGA.
I don't know about your case, I heard that as long as the GPU on the card is intact they're ok with RMAing..... obviously they are a bit on the lenient side:yepp:.

My buddy messed up a vMod on a EVGA 8800GTS, and there was noticeable OBVIOUS solder damage... Still gave em a new one.
So i guess EVGA has a rock solid warranty. I guess painting it would be alright?
