I'm building it for smooth 1080p playback only.

The setup i have in mind is:

AMD Athlon X2 BE-2400+ 45W 2300Mhz
Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H 780G mobo
2Gb DDR2
Antec Fusion 430 Case with 430W PSU

Will this be able to handle 1080p without problems? Or should i go with a dedicated video card?

why not C2D?

soft decoding is better if the cpu is fast enough.

If you are going to play 720p and 1080p .mkv files you will need more CPU pover than that.

I'm thinking about going with it because i've read that the HD3200 is the best integrated gfx card at the moment, supports H.264 hardware decoding and you don't really need a powerfull CPU because of it. If i were to go C2D route i would need a dedicated gfx card which would case more here and max i would get is the GF 8500/8600... dunno how good those are for 1080p content.

Both Ati and Nvidia claim their lower-end cards are enough to fully decode 1080P video, but still that's an extra $100 or so. I really wouldn't hedge any bets on integrated being able to pull off the same.

C2D with a integrated

powerful enough to soft decode

there is no good IGP for the intel platform, and u can get a 2600 for $50, its well worth it
