On a bang for buck quick analysis it seems that an hd4850 crossfire system is the way to go ($400 USD) - the same price of one gtx 260.

Agreed. Tri-fire would stomp 1 GTX 280 also. Funny how this works out :D

I haven't been an ATI fanboi since my old connect3d unlocked pipeline x800gto.
Man, just got an xfx xxx 8800gts 512mb too running at 800/2000/2200.
When the hd4850 x2 comes out then that will be my next card...

Are you sure? You know how much power that would require?:D

I'd have to disagree. A better bang for your buck would be 2 8800GT 512mb's in SLI for $300-320.

Well it is not a bad value but:

hd4850 crossfire (stock) with a qx9650 (4ghz) 3dmark06: 22,063

8800gt 512mb SLI (overclocked) with a q6600 (3.96ghz): 20,268

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=164238

The 45nm quad helps a little over the q6600 but again the hd4850's are stock.

For the extra $ I'd probably get the hd4850's but am going to wait for an x2 model probably...

EDIT: thru saturday 21st $150 visiontek hd4850's at best buy locally:

I have had both along with 512 GTS g92 sli and this 4850 xfire setup is much better all around, not to mention nvidia motherboards are disgusting across the board (literally) I love this x38 I got from mwwave open box, came with all the stuff like new for $140 shipped, 4.1 on a wolfy with my mem at 1100 and lowest mobo vaults on everything set manually 12 hours p95 stable not to mention while running intel matrix raid 0. I will never touch another SLI mobo again.

Apparently purple was chosen over the other 255 colors on the pallete :stick: Seriously, use red or something :p:

Otherwise, the GTX 260 is looking good...let's see them 800Mhz on Ze Cores !! :woot:

thats a tough 1 there.pros and cons to both setups in that pricerange.things to consider including cpu overclocked power to push, power supply needed, heat, compatibality for your games etc.
