I just got my processor in yesterday, disappointed to find out it was phillippines. Currently trying to overclock but the processor is not happy anywhere over 2900 mhz. Here's the current setup...

2.6C @ 2900mhz (phillippines) :(
Abit IS7
Kingston Hyperx 3500 (2x256) (2-7-3-3) currently @SPD until im sure I can't get anything more out of the processor
still stock cooling until the thermalright 900U comes in

memtest runs with no problems and prime will usually run for 20 or 30 minutes before it freezes, even with stock cooling heat hasn't been a problem yet

any tips would be greatly appreciated

Have you tested the 5:4 divider? It shouldn't be your ram thats holding you back but you never know...

played with it a little bit, like I said, I didn't want to mess with the ram too much until I figured out what was up with the processor, but, yeah, ram seems to be fine thus far

How much voltage are u putting thru the RAM? And what kind of divider are u running? But it hardly is your RAM since u r running relaxed timings, and 223MHz doesn't seem too much as i run my BH-5 sticks at 222MHz 5-3-2-2.0 timings with only 2.85v real voltage.

It's your ram if it's anything like the Kingston HyperX 3500 I've been testing the past few days...... Borderline junk in my intel box!

215 Max regardless of timings or voltage.

Come to think of it, recently KHX3500s does have some issues compared to the older sticks.

I've got a 2.6c from the phillippines too, not a very good OCer :(

Playing with it right now in my son's Koolance setup, I'll post back in an hour or so with my max stable OC.

So far the best it has ran is when I changed the bus speed to 217 and had the ram @ 1:1 with the relaxed timings. I tried cranking up the ram a bit and it stayed stable at decent settings but I actually lost a bit of performance. So far it's running best with the lower mhz and the 1:1 ratio.

Btw welcome to Xtreme Froums Shakes !! It's good to have you here ! ;)

Well the best I can get stable out of it is 3198mhz, thats 1:1 at 246 using OCZ Gold 3700. Its in my son's Koolance, so its about what you could expect from good air cooling.

Good luck !!

Thanks major, right now Id be happy if I could get it stable over 3 ghz. After running a few more test looks like better ram is probably in my future. I'm sure my processor is bad but the better ram should help quite a bit. Anyone looking to buy some hyperx?...anyone...anyone? :D

here are a few things you should try:

use the 5:4 divider, set your memory to highest Vdimm 2.85v ??
Use 1.6v on Vcore,
your memory should work fine at 2-3-2-5 (3 being Cas to Ras) 2 might work but test with 3 first on Cas to Ras

GAT:
Auto
Normal
Auto
Disable
Disable

(sorry I don't remember what each setting is called)

Already tried a few of those settings, the highest ive had my vcore so far is 1.575. I'm going to move it up to 1.6 but stock cooling scares me. ;) That 900U can't get here fast enough. I'll try those settings and see how it goes. thanks again.

well good news...im currently running @ 3003mhz. been priming for over 30 minutes and so far so good. Those timings worked great. Still not a great overclock but compaired to the speeds I was looking at earlier I feel like dancing.
thanks again major, anymore tips please don't hesitate.

I'd say its your stock HS thats probably limiting your OC right now, just wait till you get the SLK and you should be able to squeze alittle more out of it.

You're exactly right. As I prime I just watch my temps go up. I could definitely oc more but don't wanna risk it at my current temps. It seems to have no problems at the current settings right now I'm running at 3050mhz. Im going redo my AS3 and bake it properly tonight, hopefully that shaves a couple degrees. Once the SLK comes in I shouldn't have a problem reaching 3.1-3.2.
