so I am trying to figure if it would be better to get a new 2.4c or a P4P800 deluxe. I am trying to figure which will help me get a higher OC.
My current specs are in my sig. Problem is I can't get above 287 at any reasonable stabilty. Even at 3:2 and up to 1.7vcc I can't seem to break it. Problem is, I am not sure if it's the cpu or motherboard.
The cpu is $150, and the p4p800 is $129. The cpu is a bit high for me right now, but it is a good price.
I am thinking I could always pick up the cpu, and test it. Depending on how it does, sell one and get the p4p800. Thing is, if it is my MB limiting me, I really won't know the chips true ceiling and could sell off the good one. I don't have a lot of fundage so I need to sell off old parts to get new ones.
Basically I am asking your advice. I usually don't like to do this, but I am stumped.

Could it be the memory holding you back.
I would probably get another cpu.
Just to see if thats the issue. Or get some better memory.
Tough choice.:)

althers my bet is that it is _not_ the memory that is is bottlenecj since he's got amongst the best RAM there is.
the mb should handla 280fsb+ but have you tried additional cooling to the NB ?

Get the P4P800 and Vmod it. If it turns out to be the cpu, you should be able to sell the lesser performing mb (vmoded which people will pay for) and the cpu and get you a new cpu to play with in a mb you know is good.

I would say try getting a P4P800 to play with first, of coz, vmod it(i guess u'll be doing it anyway). Most ppl have great overclocks by switching from the early IC7 to P4P800, well, it's worth a try as it's a cheaper option. U could try going to a P4C800 for a change as well. Had a friend who went from 301MHz FSB to 310MHz FSB just by switching from a IC7 to P4P800, he had a Week 10 CPU as well.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions guy's.
I do also doubt it is the ram. With either the hyperx or Corsair I hit the same wall at 287fsb. The reason why I think it might be the MB is that no matter what vcore I set I am stuck.
As far as cooling the northbridge I have put on a tiger1 and some pcm+. That is about it right now.
I am thinking the p4p800 sounds like a good deal, and yeah I would definately vmod it. No motherboard is safe around me lately!:)
I was looking at the p4c800-e, and I would love to get one, but the price is a tad high for me right now. I could wait, but I want a new toy. I am the kind of guy who needs to sell off old hardware to afford new stuff to play with. That is the only way I am able to stay in the loop!
So it looks like I am gonna look for a p4p800 first, and if that doesn't work, I'll try a new CPU.
Thanks again!

Haha, i'm also the kind of guy that will vmod the board, but i'll only do it if it doesn't void the warranty(well, stuff are expensive here and i couldn't bear having no warranty, one of the reasons i haven't performed the VDIMM mod on my 8RGA+ as it'll definitely kill the warranty).
I'm in fact the same as you, which have to sell off the old hardwares to get new stuff, my recent most rig in my sig is due to some luck, strike some small lottery and made it possible for me to have all these stuff.
Anyway, good luck in playing with the P4P800, it's one sweet board as well, my friend actually changed to the P4C800(the same guy i used as example above) just bcoz he bought a P4P800 and before he could even use it, he already ruined it doing the VDIMM mod, burnt the board badly, talk about lousy soldering skills, ;), he handed the P4C800 to me for the soldering later on.
Do report back about your new overclock when u have purchased your new mobo :D
