Is it safe to fill the AGP slot with dielectric grease? My AGP card's connectors keep frosting up with either dry ice or a 172w pelt + chilled water, and results in no contact. Is it safe to use dielectric grease here like in CPU socket?
good question, I've already thought about that too. but I'm afraid there won't be contact between the card & slot, because of the dielectric grease
It's possible the pins in the AGP slot will make contact, but I'm not sure. you've got an old / damaged mainboard there? I'd give it a try!
What if you first put the card into the AGP slot and then seal the joint with dielectric grease?

that seals the top part of the AGP slot. the entire PCB of the video card is frozen, so you might get problems with other parts of the AGP slot

don't think that will be a problem
cos that's why sub-zero-coolers put dielectric grease in the the socket to have NO contact with the mainboard and cpu :rotf: :rotf:

surely the pressure between the contact springs will keep contact between the board and the socket even with the inclusion of dielectric grease. After all the ZIFF socket is hardly putting pressure on the chip legs after you close the lever.

if you can put dielectric grease in a cpu socket, you can put it in any socket.. :) :p:

I would think so too ;)
Yeah you have to put grease in the socket, basically wedge it in the socket without the card in the poke the card in the hole ;)

Yup dielectric grease works great in AGP slots as well, perfect for the very scenario that you describe. :)

the grease will work beatifully, nothing bad will happen
if it doesent want to work heat up the slot and agp card so the grease gets more oily

I do it all the time no problem, also fill cpu with it;)

I fill the agp slot with dielectric grease along with the cpu socket before inserting my vid card and cpu. I also ad a liquide electrical tape along the top of the agp filling the gap bettween the agp and the board so that no moistre may run down from my NB block and enter the agp slot shorting out pins.

Good to know!! That's all the assurance I need. Thanks guys! :D
